Manufacturer Part Number: WH39X10003

This genuine OEM part is sold individually. It is a transmission assembly for washing machines. The transmission assembly is the gearbox in the washing machine's motor that allows the washing machine to work at different speeds and different intensities. If the washing machine is no longer spinning properly and has lost its normal level of washing power, it could mean that the transmission assembly needs to be replaced. Luckily replacing this part is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. To replace the transmission assembly, start by turning off all power to the washing machine. Proceed to remove the upper control panel. To do this, pull forward on the bottom of the console and remove the two retaining clips as well as the harness connector to the lid switch. Using a flathead screwdriver remove the clips. After this, remove the entire cabinet from the back panel to gain access to the interior of the washer. Next, remove the 7/16 bolt from the agitator and pull it straight up to remove it from the shaft. Once completed, access the motor and pump and remove by releasing the screws and tabs that attach it. Remove the wire harness attached to the transmission. Remove the bolts that secure the motor mount to the transmission and proceed to pull the old transmission out of its place. Install the new transmission and reassemble the other parts. This replacement part is compatible with General Electric, RCA, and Hotpoint brand washers.

I purchased a new Mech Hsng Asm-Bearing assembly. After reinstalling everything the Pulsator Asm does not work. I was able to notice the Coupling Asm would lock up when I tighten the nut Part Number AP3671926. I have removed the Rotor Asm and inspected it a couple times. Everything looks OK. If I push the gears on the Coupling Asm down before I tighten up the nut it would move up and down but would only Pulsate in the wash cycle not the rinse cycle. What am I doing wrong?? How tight should the nut be put on? If I tighten with a impact gun am I over tightening?

1 Answer

Chris, You would not want to use an impact gun on the unit and if you are then it is being overtightened. The issue that you are having could be caused by the motor assembly part number WH20X10024.

Frank, You may want to get some Loctite and put on the threading of the screw. With all the motion of the agitator it is possible for the screw to come loose and the Loctite will help with keeping it from loosening up.

Rocky, Unfortunately with the dry squealing noise and then the unit shutting down, this issue would be in the bearing and you would want to replace the mechanical housing assembly WH39X10003.

The tub spins fine. Agitator came off. Tightened the screw back dow. Ran load with the lid open. The agitator cycle isn't working. I think during this cycle the agitator should be turning the clothes inside the tub followed by a spin to the right and one to the left using centrifugal force to force dirt out of clothes but the agitator cycle doesn't move anything. What part should I replace in order to get my agitator working again? Thanks.

1 Answer

Tom, The agitator on this unit is called the pulsator assembly WH43X10027 and if the shaft is rotating but the agitator is not then the agitator would need to be replaced. If the shaft is not turning then the mech housing assembly bearing WH39X10003 would need to be replaced.
