Franklin P. July 02, 2013 for Model Number JVM1490CD003 I'm trying to replace the door handle on a GE Spacesaver microwave. I've just ordered the replacement. I removed the plastic inner cover, removed 6 screws and pryed off. I removed the top screw holding the handle, but the bottom screw is covered by the metal door frame. Can this screw be removed or must I buy a new door?
1 Answer Hello Franklin, All of the publications I found on the model say the door is not serviceable except two. One of these advise to use a smaller screwdriver to remove the second screw and the other doesn't specify except that the door handle is replaceable. Neither of these publications have illustrations but both note that if the door is dis-assembled, the door should be tested for leakage with a survey meter. You should be able to have this done by an authorized servicer since the purchase of a survey meter is an expensive one and you will only use it the one time. Read More...
