The Compressor Start Relay is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators. It plays an important role in allowing the refrigerator's compressor to power on. The start relay controls the initial energizing of the compressor until the control circuit signals it to remain powered.

Causes of a bad start relay can include failure over many power cycling events or damage to its internal electrical components. Without a properly functioning start relay, the compressor will not receive the signal needed to turn on.

Symptoms of a bad start relay include:

  • The refrigerator fails to cool and the compressor remains inactive
  • Abnormally long cool-down times after door openings
  • Fluctuating interior temperatures

This replacement relay is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Compressor Start Relay (Part Number: OEM11388207)

1 Answer

Ralph, It would be more likely that the start relay would cause the unit to make a clicking noise.

Al, the compressor overload WR08X10026 would need to be tested for 120VAC to identify if the compressor is receiving voltage or not. If it is, the refrigerator power cord would need to be unplugged and the overload tested for continuity from the terminal to the compressor side port. If there is continuity, this will identify that the compressor or the start relay WR07X10057 would be the cause of failure. If there was clicking when the compressor was receiving voltage, the failure is in the relay. If there was not, the failure would likely be in the compressor.

Compressor is not running, the fan is spins freely, when I disconnected the fan motor and checked the power connector there was no power to the fan motor. I also checked the Run capacitor and found it had no continuity. The light inside both the fridge and freezer doors work but the water/ice dispenser selector lights are not coming on and does not dispense when the lever is pressed. I checked the Fuse on the main motherboard and it is good. What else should I check? what could be a potential problem?

1 Answer

Brandon, This issue will most likely be caused by a faulty control board with the compressor and the fan not working.

Cesar U for Model Number DSS25KGRBWW

My GE refrigerator model: DSS25KGRBWW, PTCR is not functioning. I need to know if replacing the WR07X10057 OEM item with WR07X10055 is okay. I'm asking because of two reasons: Price and Recommendations. Last week I was in the GEAppliances.com website and I entered the refrigerator model # and I got an "out of stock" message and a suggested PTCR # ending in 55. This week I did it again and the OEM was in stock. I checked both prices on the internet and there is $40 difference in price. Are they interchangeable for my refrigerator? The pump has #: DC57C84RCU6. Thanks for your help.

1 Answer

Cesar, These 2 relays would be similar enough where you could use one in place of the other.

Jerry, This will most likely be a main control board that is faulty and would need part number WR55X10942C. Sounds like the unit may have stuck in defrost.

Jacob, Unfortunately there is a not a picture of the ptcr that shows it wired up in order to send. Based on the wiring diagram of the unit there is a black wire which will connect to the overload, the orange wire will go to the number 2 terminal, the one directly across from the one labeled 3.

Chuck for Model Number PSS26SGPASS

Sorry for long post. Basic question: is wr07x10055 an acceptable replacement for wr07x10033? I was told this by local parts dealer and I installed with temporary success. Now I suspect main board. Details below. Woke up to a warm freezer and fridge. Fridge fan blowing when door closed and evaperator fan comes on in freezer if door open for more than three minutes. Temp controls accept commands. Compressor not running. Installed new start relay and compressor started immediately. Frig and freezer cooled down to 0 and 37 deg respectively. Next morning back to 50 degrees in both compartments. Pressed both freezer and frig temp buttons to check set points (still set to 0 and 37) and compressor started. Both compartments cooled down to desired temps and held all day and evening. Next morning, back to 50 degrees. Now, no amount of power removal or temp setting changes will start the compressor. Troubleshooting so far: Checked compressor resistance for opens or shorts - good Checked thermistor resistances at room temp - good approx 5k ohms Checked defrost heater and terminating thermostat resistance - good 22 ohms Voltage between J11 and J8 on board - good 120 vac Voltage between orange wire on comp relay and black wire on overload -0 bad? Does this seem like a main board failure? Are there any other checks I should make? Run capacitor maybe? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lenny, If the units compressor is not coming on all the time when it is time for it to then you will want to make sure that the condenser fan is running. And if it is then replace the relay on the compressor as it is faulty.

GE profile side-by-side isn't cooling on both sides. Lights. Fan work. The compressor doesn't seem to come up. I checked compressor pins. They are giving correct resistance, so I think compressor could be working. I checked the relay. I don't hear any cranking noise when I shake it. When I checked the VAC on the input pins of relay, it shows up as 0.00. I thought it should read around 120. Not sure what to check next, and what could be wrong here. Will appreciate any help.

Hello John. If the fans are running, but there is no voltage to the compressor, you will need to order and replace the main control board WR55X10942C on the unit.
