Bobby April 03, 2013 for Model Number DRSR483ED2WW My GE electric dryer still works fine, except it now emits a high-pitched squeak when the drum rotates. I'd like to repair the problem if I can, but I don't even know where to begin. Can you suggest a place for me to start and also explain how to open the dryer cabinet to get at the parts?
1 Answer Hello Bobby, There are a couple of things that can cause this. The front bearing slides WE3M26one of these, WE03X37318 two of these, WE03X37317 and two of these, can be worn out and the heating element can rub against the back of the drum, or the ground spring that holds the ball in the back of the rear bearing assembly WE25M40 to properly ground the drum can be making the noise. The idler pulley WE12X83 should be checked while the unit is apart. Read More...
Newbe March 13, 2013 for Model Number Sears Kenmore dryer model 96511110 I think my dryer motor may be shot. Is there a way to tell? A guy was saying that the spindle in the center should turn freely. I don't know if this is true. We did find two 1/4 " size ball bearing in the bottom of the fan housing. He said they were from the motor? I just noticed that there is another part " rear drum bearing" not sure if they could be from this. We noticed the drum was hard to turn when we opened the top. The dryer just make a humming start noise but nothing inside moves.
1 Answer Hello Newbe, The motor has a bushing even though they are referred to as bearings. The ball bearings you found are not part of the unit so they must have been in a pocket or somehow got into the wash. There are two roller wheels 349241T in the rear and an idler pulley WP691366 that the belt rides on. These should spin freely. If any of them will not turn or oppose rotation. There is also a "bearing" in the front of the drum which is actually a plastic glide WP3394508. Let us know if you need further assistance. Read More...
Gary March 04, 2013 for Model Number DPSB613ED2WW How do you open the Dryer cabinet to replace the rear bearing?
1 Answer Gary, You will need to use a putty knife to disengage spring clips between main top and front panel. Once you've got the top up, You'll find two 1/4 " screws near the top on the cabinet frame interior, remove those screws, and lean the top mof the panel out, disconnect the door switch wire harness and lift up and out on the front panel. You'll see and inspect the front drum glide/seal assembly attached to the door opening of the front panel. Once you have the front off, you will need to reach in through the cut out in the front frame and release the drum belt from the idler pulley. You then grasp the drum, and lift up on the back portion of the drum, to disengage the drum bearing shaft from the composite drum bearing , and slide the drum out of the cabinet. You should vaccuum and dust out the complete interior and all the components, then re assemble the dryer. Read More...
Kate February 02, 2013 for Model Number GE Front load electric dryer model DBVH512EFOWW My dryer is making a very high pitched sqeaking noise. I think it is either the drum rollers or idler pulley? Thoughts? Which parts do I need? Should I change the belt while in there?
1 Answer Hello Kate, your model has a rear drum bearing WE25M40 instead of drum rollers. At the front of the drum you have 2 of each front drum slides WE03X37318 and WE03X37317. You might also check your drum felt seal WE09X27634, idler pulley WE12X83, and replace the drive belt WE03X29897 if it hasn't been changed in a while. Hope this helps! Read More...
Matthew E. Wanamaker January 21, 2013 for Model Number DDE5944VHLAD I'm experiencing a bit of frustration in determining if this more expensive rear drum bearing kit is the correct one for the dryer I'm hoping to repair. The dryer is a General Electric, Model # DDE5944VHLAD, with Serial # DR203481G. In April of 2008, I replaced the heater coils, idler pulley assembly, drive belt, and (I believe) the rear drum bearing as well. At that time, I noticed that the (original) nylon drum slides/supports in the front of the unit were rather worn, and because I needed to get the dryer up and functional, it was simpler and less expensive to purchase a used set of slides (that had far more material left on them than the ones in my dryer, and with little apparent wear) from a local appliance recycling firm a few miles from my home, than to wait a few more days to receive a brand new pair of slides. Once I got the new components installed and the dryer reassembled, all seemed to work well, until the past few months. What started out as an occasional squeak has now turned into a loud "thrum", droning on as the drum rotates. I have checked to see that the drum is not obstructed, by rotating it back and forth with my hand on one of the drum "baffles". Since I'm not moving the drum very fast, I don't detect a noise, and it appears to rotate pretty freely. I haven't yet disassembled the dryer for inspection since I last serviced it, so I don't recall what type of rear drum support assembly is actually installed on my particular unit. I'm aware there are types with bearing plates having a pass-through for a grounding strip, like this kit, and a less expensive version without that feature. I've attempted to verify that the Rear Drum Bearing Kit #WE25M40 is appropriate for my dryer, but your system is telling me that it is NOT compatible. I'm not even finding my Model # listed anywhere, which makes me more frustrated. I can't see that while this dryer is admittedly old, getting parts like this would be that difficult, or at least not as difficult as locating some electrical components. I must ask though, given that I've replaced the other components BESIDES the bearing kit contents, might installing a complete rear drum bearing kit (and even a new set of drum slides) solve the noise issue I'm experiencing now? I'm hopeful it's NOT the motor (as I believe you suggested to other customers with similar issues), as I had to replace the drive motor on our Whirlpool washer this year, and I would rather be spared a similar expense for an even older dryer. We're just not in a position quite yet to purchase brand new units, and don't want to buy ones we haven't fully researched. Thanks very much for reading this and for whatever information you can provide.
1 Answer Hello Matthew, The rear bearing kit for your unit would be part number WE25M40. Changing out the rear bearing and slides should take care of the noise issue that you are having. Read More...
Joe January 14, 2013 for Model Number DHDVH52EF0WW My GE Electric Adora Dryer is making a loud squeking noise if I put more than a few light items in to dry. The heavier the load the louder the squeak. Otherwise, the dryer works perfectly. Do I need to replace the rear drum bearing to correct the problem or could something else be the problem?
1 Answer Hello Joe, You will want to check to make sure that the bearing slide WE03X37318 and WE03X37317 On the drum support are not worn and causing the squeaking noise. It would be a good thing to change rear bearing and the slides. Read More...
Dave B December 19, 2012 for Model Number DPSR483EAOWW I recently replaced the front bearing and glides as the dryer was making a skreeching sound. After replacing them it was much better however there is an occasional chirp sounding like a dry bearing. I suspect an idler pully or rear bearing. I plan on changing both. There was a listing for a rear drum bearing sleeve. Does this come with the rear bearing kit or do I need to order separately? Thanks.
Steve November 07, 2012 for Model Number DRSR483GG7WW Dryer (DRSR483GG7WW) was squeaking with wet heavy loads and clearing up as the load dried. This was happening for about one week. Now the dryer doesn't work at all. I press the power button and only get a buzzing sound. I opened the top and the belt is nice and snug. I can also spin the dryer. What needs to be fixed? Thanks, Steve
1 Answer Hello Steve. Make sure the bearing in the rear and the front glides are good. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the motor is bad and will need to be replaced, but you need to check these other parts first. Look for wear and possible binding of the dryer drum on the unit. Read More...
Renee October 09, 2012 for Model Number DBXR463GBOWW My dryer is making a noise when drying but I can't get the panel off to see what is wrong can you help?
1 Answer Hello Renee, open the door and look for screws holding the front panel on. It's difficult to say which part is making noise without getting inside to see what is wrong. Your machine has a rear drum bearing WE25M40 as well as a front support bearing WE3M26 and bearing glides WE03X37318 (white) and WE03X37317 (green). Each of these can cause noises when they fail. While you're inside the dryer, if you find any of these have failed, I would replace all of them so you won't have to go back into it for a long time. Also, check your drive belt WE03X29897, idler pulley WE12X83, and blower wheel WE16M15. Sometimes they wear out and will make noise. Hope this helps! Read More...
Ann May 31, 2012 for Model Number DBLR33ET1WW (GE ELECTIC DRYER) My dryer is making a loud squeaking noise while drying cloths. It drys cloths just fine. What part is needed and will instructions to replace the part be included?
1 Answer Hello Ann. You will need to replace the front glides WE3X87 and the rear bearing kit WE25M40 in the unit. You will also want to check and see if the front bearing WE3X77 that the glides install into is worn. If so, replace it as well. Read More...
