Manufacturer Part Number: WB20X10048

The Thermostat is an OEM part for GE microwaves. This part regulates the temperature within the microwave, ensuring it operates within safe and efficient temperature ranges. It helps prevent overheating by monitoring and controlling the internal temperature, protecting both the appliance and the user.

Causes of a bad thermostat can include wear and tear over time, electrical malfunctions, or damage from power surges.

Symptoms of a bad thermostat include:

  • Microwave not heating properly
  • Overheating or shutting off unexpectedly
  • Error codes related to temperature issues

Questions & Answers

For Ge Thermostat (Part Number: OEM15530445)

Ken, the thermistor WB18X10126 would be used by the main control WB27X25300 to monitor the temperature of the convection cycle. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not show a resistance testing procedure for this thermistor to verify if it is properly operational.

Martin, it would be recommended that the main control WB27X10466 (control has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available) is tested for 120VAC at the two-wire connector. If there is proper voltage, the control has failed. If there is no voltage, the microwave power cord would need to be unplugged and the bottom TCO WB24X31473, cavity TCO WB20X10048, magnetron TCO WB21X10054, and fuse WB27X10928 would need to be tested for continuity. If any of the parts fail to have continuity, then it would need to be replaced.

Ray, The thermostat would not cause the unit to not heat properly and this would be more likely a control issue if it works for one part and not another.

Sam, The parts in question could all or any one of them be an issue. I would recommend they be tested with a meter to determine which of the parts are causing the issue. It could be one of these or others causing the issue. If you need further help feel free to call and speak with one of our agents at 1-877-477-7278.

Jeffrey, You have a thermostat on the magnetron that if is open meaning no continuity will stop the unit from heating. Also, the magnet on the magnetron could be broke and that will make the unit stop heating also. Use extreme caution when checking these components there is a high voltage capacitor close by that could potentially be holding 2000 volts.

Dave, If the TCO is failing then check to make sure that the unit is not overheating and if it is then it is possible that the relay for the heat is faulty.

Joe for Model Number GE JE1590SH02 fabricated in 2005

The convection section of the microwave will not heat up. The heating element has continuity @ .9 ohms. The Thermistor (part #233591) puts up 281K ohms at room temp. Resistance drops as it is placed in hot water. (Negative temp coefficient). The Oven cavity Temp cut out ( part # 235672) has continuity @ .7ohms. The microwave section works perfectly in all respects. I purchased a heating element expecting that would be the problem before I did any troubleshooting but with continuity across the contacts I don't see any point in replacing it. What am I missing?

Hello Joe. Based on the information you provided, you will need to order and replace the main board WB27X25300 on the unit. Thank you.

Rue, The magnetron thermostat would not cause the unit to lose all power but a bad oven cavity tco or a bad fuse would cause this issue.

Mcspiffy for Model Number SCA1001HSS01

I ordered a fuse as well as two TCOs in an attempt to troubleshoot a sudden loss of power to my 2004 GE Profile Advantium 120 Convection Microwave. I only see two TCO's available for my model (WB21X10046 Thermostat - Upper Heater and WB21X10045TCO Base Hood). The instructions I have lists three TCOs: Magnetron TCO, Hood TCO and Cavity TCO. My question is: is the Thermostat - Upper Heater TCO = Magnetron TCO? The top of the Magnetron TCO appears to be stamped with "Z123" in large print and then "1507" in smaller print below. Thank you, in advance, for your assistance!
