David M. September 25, 2012 for Model Number GE Profile Refrigerator TFX25PR My water dispenser stopped working. The problem is a blocked water supply tube somewhere between the water outlet valve to the connection to the freezer door. I had the refrigerator about 15 years and never had a problem with the water dispenser. When I blow through the tube it is completely blocked. What is the best way to determine if the line is frozen, and how easy is to replace the supply line (do I have to follow the same routing or can I just make the connection straight from the freezer door back to the outlet valve? Also, the ice dispenser only produces crushed ice but not cubed ice. Does this model only have one water valve behind the control board? Is there an easy way to test the water valve to determine if it is the cause of not providing cubed ice? Thank you in advance for answering my questions.
1 Answer Hello David, This sounds like the water tank is frozen. Try removing the bottom drawer and put a hair dryer down there for 10 to 15 minutes to see if it thaws out. If it does, you need to check for proper air flow from the damper and at the air return at the bottom. If no problems are found there, set the fresh food section to one setting COLDER to increase air flow and set the freezer side one setting WARMER. I know this sounds backwards, but it will increase air flow which will prevent the colder air from settling to the bottom of the unit and freezing the water tank and items in the crisper drawers. The ice dispenser is a different issue and the water valve will have nothing to do with it. If the unit will only dispense crushed ice, the solenoid in the back of the crusher bin isn't being energized or it has failed. Also, if it is stuck in the up position when you install the crusher bin, the solenoid cannot rip the bar which moves the crusher diverter out of the way so the solid cubes can go through without being forced into the crusher blades. You should also make sure the arm on the side of the crusher bin will move the diverter in the front of the crusher bin. If it won't, you need to put your ice in a bowl and run water in it to clear any ice build-up in the bottom of it. Once the bin is clear of ice, it can be dried and the ice put back in so you can try it. Read More...
