Ron January 27, 2016 for Model Number GTDP490ED0WS My dryer stops. Runs about 10 minutes then stops. Hit the start button and it goes again. Sometimes I have to turn the time so it will restart. When it doesn't restart, I hear a click when hitting start button. I'm guessing I need a new timer. What's your thought?
1 Answer Ron, You will want to check the venting of the unit to ensure that the vent is clear. It sounds like the issue will be caused by the motor overheating and this would be the first thing to check. Also check for drag on the drum as it rotates. Drag would cause excessive strain on the motor. Read More...
John November 29, 2015 for Model Number gtdp490gd2ws There was a large electrical spark that occurred within the control panel of my dryer followed my a little smoke. I believe one of the control knobs has fried but cannot see any evidence of scorching on the rear of any of the controls. Is there a way that I can test each one so that I do not purchase the incorrect one?
1 Answer John, To test each one of the switches you will need to have the wiring diagram to be sure of which is the common and then test for continuity from common to each of the terminals in the different settings of the switch. This would be the only way to test. The wiring diagram will be located in the control panel of the unit. Read More...
1 Answer Larry, You will want to check the thermostats and thermal fuses on the unit to make sure that they have continuity. If there is continuity then There are 2 components other than the thermostats which would cause the heating element not to work. First is the motor and second the timer. The best option is to disconnect the power to the unit and access the heating element. Disconnect one wire that is going to the heating element, preferably the one on the thermostat side. Plug the unit back up and using a multimeter you will want to turn the dryer on and test for 120 vac at the terminal on the heater where the wire was disconnected. What this will do is eliminate the heater element itself and the motor. If there is 120 vac at this point then you know the heater is good and the motor is good because the other 120 vac coming through the thermostats is the timer side of the circuit. If there is not 120 vac at that point then you will want to test the other terminal on the heater and check for 120 vac. If there is not 120 vac then the motor would be bad and if there is 120 vac then the heater would be the issue. If there is 120 vac at each point then the heater is faulty. Read More...
Carolyn November 03, 2015 for Model Number GTDP490ED7WS Dryer won't turn on. Seems like gears are stripped on timer because it doesn't click when I turn it.
1 Answer Carolyn, You will want to check the door switch and thermal fuse for continuity. If either does not have continuity then replace that part. These are the most likely causes for the unit to not start. Read More...
H.Wells September 26, 2015 for Model Number DBSR453EB1WW Thought I had s timer issue, slow to advance, clothes taking a long time to dry. Removed dryer to outside, used compressed air to blow out dryer and cleaned vent ducts to the outside. Replaced timer with new factory part and same issues as before. What am I missing ? Thanks
1 Answer H. Wells, The most likely cause for this issue would be a faulty cycling thermostat which is part number WE4M216. Read More...
Jim O September 15, 2015 for Model Number DPSR610GG9WT While my wife was turning the temp control knob, it shorted and fell into the control panel. The knob fell into her hand. The dryer still heats but I presume it is on whatever setting she probably had. She is still using the dryer without temp control. Is this safe and would the problem be the Temp switch? Is this something I can do?
1 Answer Hello Jim. If the part fell into the unit, I would advise replacing the temp switch on the unit and do not use it until it has been replaced. You should be able to do the repair yourself. It is not to hard to do. Just make sure you disconnect the power first. Read More...
Steven August 02, 2015 for Model Number DBSR453EB1WW My GE dryer does not shut off but continues to heat and tumble in the optimum dry setting. In the timed dry setting it works fine. There is good air flow out the vent and it is clear of lint.
1 Answer Hello Steven. Make sure the sensor bars are clean. If so, the bias thermostat WE4M216 may be bad and need to be replaced. Read More...
Bruce J. January 24, 2015 for Model Number GE dryer DPSR405EA1WW My dryer works fine in the timed dry but will not shut off in any of the other dryer modes. Which sensor do I need to replace? Thank you
1 Answer Hello Bruce, This indicates the ducting has an issue. If the unit cannot exhaust the heat, lint, and moisture, it is blown past the drum seals back into the cabinet with the heating element, thermostats, and thermal fuses. Installing a part will not help unless a drum seal has come off of the unit. Otherwise, the dryer duct will need to be as short and straight as possible while also maintaining a full 4 inch inner diameter. Read More...
