The cold water reservoir is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators. It serves a dual purpose, holding the supply of cold water needed for both the ice maker and water dispensing functions. This ensures that each ice cube is formed from chilled water and that cold water is always ready to be dispensed.

Causes of a bad reservoir can include cracks, fractures, or leaks developing in the plastic over time due to repeated filling and draining. Mineral deposits or contamination of the water supply can also compromise performance.

Symptoms of an issue include:

  • Inability to fill with water or retain water levels
  • Leaking water inside the refrigerator
  • Irregular or inconsistent ice production

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore refrigerators.

Hello Steve, You will need to order and replace the complete water reservoir WR17X11324. One end goes to the water valve and the other to the water filter housing. It is highly recommended to replace this assembly instead of splicing it to correct a leak. Every additional connection point is another potential leak.

John, Unfortunately the manufacturer did not make a heater kit for your model for the fill tube freezing in the door. You would have to replace the door to correct the issue.

Mark, This would more than likely be a frozen water line in the door. You can pull the kickplate off then you will be able to disconnect the water line in at the bottom of the door and hit the dispenser lever. If water comes out then the water line in the door is frozen.

Hello Charles. The water line may be frozen in the freezer door. Remove the line from the bottom of the door and see if water comes out there. If so, you need to thaw out the freezer door, it is frozen. You will need to install a heater kit WR49X10173 to repair the unit.

JD, To replace the water tank in the back of the unit you would need to pull the unit out and disconnect the water line coming from the cabinet of the unit to the water valve. At the lower freezer door there is a connector that you will need to disconnect the water line there. Open the refrigerator door and remove the crisper drawers and shelves. Once this is done you will be able to pull the water tank out. Install the new tank and tubing and reconnect. Pay attention to where the water line goes under the cabinet for the door so that you can reinstall in the same location.
