The cold water reservoir is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators. It serves a dual purpose, holding the supply of cold water needed for both the ice maker and water dispensing functions. This ensures that each ice cube is formed from chilled water and that cold water is always ready to be dispensed.

Causes of a bad reservoir can include cracks, fractures, or leaks developing in the plastic over time due to repeated filling and draining. Mineral deposits or contamination of the water supply can also compromise performance.

Symptoms of an issue include:

  • Inability to fill with water or retain water levels
  • Leaking water inside the refrigerator
  • Irregular or inconsistent ice production

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore refrigerators.

Ken, Thanks for the question!!! It is possible and very common. If there are any defects in the door insulation (voids in material) or if the freezer temperature is incorrect water in the line can become frozen. I would start by checking my freezer temp. If it is off you could have an issue with a sensor. If the temps are okay you will need to thaw the door to clear the blockage. This is best done by removing everything from the unit and unplugging it for 24 hrs. Other methods are possible but be careful what you choose to do. Some people use things such as hair dryers on the door and on the waterline, this can cause a great deal of damage to the plastic parts and this is why letting it melt on its own is preferred.

Neithia, The screw on type of fitting is a compression fitting as it has a ring on the inside of the nut. You would just remove the nut from the original tubing and slide it over the new tubing and screw the nut into place.

Hello Pete, You have to push the line into the valve and hold the ring around the line against the valve to get the line to pull out. If you have stretched the line it will have to be cut off squarely with a razor knife so it is not a potential leak. To re-insert the lines, push the line into the valve until it bottoms then push hard and it should pop in another 1/4 inch. Do not contact the ring around the valve and pull on the line to seat the seal.

Tom, If you serial number on your refrigerator starts with AF to Am then the heater kit for your refrigerator dispenser tube would be WR49X10173. If the serial number does not start between these then the door would have to be replaced. As for the white particles in the water after it sits and warms up. This is calcium and the only way to get rid of this would be to have a water softener on your home as the filter do not get rid of calcium, especially if in hard water areas.

Greg, Based on this issue it sounds like the water line inside the freezer door is broken. To correct this issue, the freezer door would need to be replaced. The reason for this is because the water line is foamed into place and the water line is not removable.

Hello Mike. Unhook the water line at the bottom of the freezer door and see if water comes out there when you press the dispenser lever. If so, the water line inside the freezer door is frozen and will need to be thawed out on the unit. They do not make a dispenser heater kit for you model number. Sorry.
