The Igniter Glowbar is an OEM part for GE ovens. It is responsible for igniting the gas to start the burner, ensuring efficient and safe operation of the oven. This component heats up to a high temperature to ignite the gas, enabling the oven to reach and maintain the desired cooking temperature.

Over time, the igniter glowbar can wear out or fail due to repeated heating and cooling cycles, exposure to food spills, or electrical issues. Causes of a bad igniter glowbar include filament breakage, electrical component failure, or contamination from debris.

Symptoms of a bad igniter glowbar include:

  • The oven not heating up
  • The burner not igniting
  • A noticeable delay in ignition
  • The igniter not glowing when the oven is turned on

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Cherrie, To determine if the igniter is good then there would be 2 different methods you could try. If available, you could use an amp clamp and place it on one of the igniter wires and turn the unit on and see if you get an amp draw of between 3.2 and 3.6 amps. If there is proper amp draw then the valve is the issue otherwise the igniter is faulty. The same would be true if you are using a meter and testing voltage at the valve for 3.2 to 3.6 vac. If there is proper power then the valve is faulty and would need replaced otherwise it is the igniter that is faulty.

Barbara, The igniter needs to receive voltage from the control in order to glow. Check to see if the igniter is receiving 120 VAC from the control.
