The Ice Chute Door is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. It is located in the ice dispenser area on the front of the refrigerator. It opens and closes automatically when ice is dispensed, ensuring a controlled release of ice cubes or crushed ice into the user's glass or container. The door helps to prevent frost buildup, maintain proper insulation, and protect the ice inside the dispenser.

Causes of a faulty ice chute door can include wear and tear over time, damage due to regular use or accidental impact, or a malfunctioning door motor or solenoid.

Symptoms of a bad ice chute door may include:

  • Difficulty in dispensing ice
  • Frost or condensation forming around the ice chute area
  • The door not opening or closing smoothly or completely

This OEM LG part can also be used on Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Hello Chuck. You will need to check the flap and housing and solenoid. 1) Disconnect funnel and button assembly by pulling down and forward. 2) Remove display frame assembly by making a gap between a display frame assembly and door with a flat blade screwdriver and pulling it forward. The cover dispenser is attached with a hook. CAUTION: When replacing the dispenser cover in the reverse order of removal, be careful that the lead wire does not come out and the water tube is not pinched by the dispenser cover. 1) Pull up and out on the dispenser cover to remove. 2) Disconnect the wire harness. 3) Replace in reverse order. 3-14 DUCT DOOR REPLACEMENT 1) Pull up and out on the dispenser cover to remove. 2) Disconnect the wire harness. 3) Remove the funnel 4) Replace in reverse order.

Al for Model Number 79572063112

The chute door is not opening. All other functions working properly. Ice builds up in the chute and I can open the chute manually from the exterior of the door, the ice falls out and the door snaps back closed automatically. Auger turns both ways depending on crushed or cubed. There must be something that opens the door; motor, solenoid, etc. Also how do I access those items since I can not pop off the front panel? It is flush with the exterior of the door. Any advise would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Al, There is a dispenser motor on the unit which is part number EAU59551204 which would most likely be the issue with the dispenser door not opening. To access you would need to look under the dispenser and see if there is a screw, if so then remove it and grab hold of the dispenser face and pull out. This will allow it to pop loose.

The cover dispenser is attached with a hook. 3) The Display Assembly can be connected by pressing the top of the dispenser cover and pushing it after separating the Display Frame from its housing. 4) Loosen four screws with a phillips screwdriver and pull the funnel Assembly to disconnect. 5) The Duct Cap Assembly can be disconnected if the hold lever connecting screw is loosened with a phillips driver. 6) To install the Duct Cap Assembly, insert one end of the spring into the right hole of the dispenser lever and insert the other end into the right hole in the top part of the dispenser. Then attach the holder at the solenoid switch.

John, Based on this description, it sounds like the issue with your unit is either the arm that pushes on the switch is sticking from stuff that may have splashed on it or the switch is sticking and would need to be replaced.

Bryan, The duct cap assembly would need to be replaced if it has not already. When the previous solenoid got too hot it melted the plastic and would need to replace the cap duct assembly.
