The Ice Chute Door is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. It is located in the ice dispenser area on the front of the refrigerator. It opens and closes automatically when ice is dispensed, ensuring a controlled release of ice cubes or crushed ice into the user's glass or container. The door helps to prevent frost buildup, maintain proper insulation, and protect the ice inside the dispenser.

Causes of a faulty ice chute door can include wear and tear over time, damage due to regular use or accidental impact, or a malfunctioning door motor or solenoid.

Symptoms of a bad ice chute door may include:

  • Difficulty in dispensing ice
  • Frost or condensation forming around the ice chute area
  • The door not opening or closing smoothly or completely

This OEM LG part can also be used on Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Hello Kathy. Disconnect funnel and button assembly by pulling down and forward. Remove display frame Assembly by making a gap between a display frame Assembly and funnel Assembly. with a blade screwdriver and pulling it forward. The cover dispenser is attached with a hook. The Display Assembly can be connected by pressing the top of the dispenser cover and pushing it after separating the Display Frame from its housing. Loosen four screws with a Phillips screwdriver and pull the funnel Assembly to disconnect. The Duct Cap Assembly can be disconnected if the hold lever connecting screw is loosened with a Phillips driver. To install the Duct Cap Assembly, insert one end of the spring into the right hole of the dispenser lever and insert the other end into the right hole in the top part of the dispenser. Then attach the holder at the solenoid switch.

JW, You will want to check to make sure that there is power getting to the dispenser solenoid to see if it is bad. In most cases the dispenser solenoid has failed and caused the door arm to be bad so it may be necessary to get the Duct cap assembly and the dispenser solenoid.

Having problem with LG refrigerator. First, ice door quit working. LG repair man came and took water and ice dispenser section out of door. Lever was broken off the end of the flapper (cap assembly, duct). He replaced with new cap assy and the plunger that activates it. Worked for a few days and broke again. Then he replaced cap assy again and the user control board in dispenser. Worked good for a couple of weeks then light in dispenser started flashing on and off (like morse code),and ticking noises coming from the main board area on top of fridge. Then it started dispensing water on its on (maybe 8 ozs at a time). Have to keep glass under it at all times now because we dont ever know when it will dispense. Flapper for ice is now broken again so no ice dispenses through door. I now believe the refrigerator is possessed. Still ticks from main board and light flashes on and off on dispenser. Could the main board the problem? Thanks, Emory

Emory, With there being a clicking noise from the main board then yes the main board would need to be replaced.

Hello Capn, These are the wires to the ice door heater. I keeps the ice door warm enough to prevent moisture in the room air, (humidity), from condensing and puddling in the tray. Some units still use them and some models have dis-continued these.

Hello Marco, The dispenser door not closing would be either the solenoid 6421JB2002R or the ice door arm 5007JA3006R. You would want to pull the dispenser to check to see which. The icemaker issue would be an unrelated issue. You will want to put through test cycle to see if it goes into test mode. There should be a button at the bottom of the icemaker motor. Push button and this will allow unit to cycle. If unit cycles but no water then check to make sure that the fill tube is not clogged. If clear then you will want to check for voltage at the water valve 5221JA2006D. When the icemaker finishes cycle you should have 12 vdc at the water valve if no voltage then check the circuit at control board. If no power to valve still then you would want to replace icemaker 5989JA1005D.

Hello Matt. Correct. Let the spring rest against the housing applying tension so the door closes.

Pete for Model Number LFX25950SB

Hi. I hope you can help with our nutty fridge! The ice makers (for lack of better terms) "trapdoor" does not close when it should. About 5 seconds after dispensing ice the door should close by itself. I do hear a "click" like the solenoid releasing but the door (more often than not, does not close.) If I forget to check it I can have a lot of melted ice a while later. So, I have to push the door back manually although it does not feel like it is a mechanical issues but rather like an electromagnetic resistance. Any idea what part should be swapped out, the main board for the ice maker? I still haven't taken it apart to take a physical look but I know that manually closing the door is not good in the long term. Oh, I should also mention that I can feel cold air coming from that area and there is dampness in that area. So, it looks like the trapdoor is closed but not firmly enough to keep ice from melting. I hope you can help. My wife wants a new fridge but I think this should be a fairly easy fix. I'm an accomplished do-it-yourselfer :-)Thanks! Pete

Hi Pete. It sounds like the duct assy. cap part # 6421JB2002R is not closing can be caused by the reversing valve plunger part # 5007JA3006R is sticky. The internal plunger can be worn out and dragging. Insert the duct cap part # in our part search page and it will show the installation procedure. Thank You.
