Pj July 11, 2016 for Model Number DLE7177RM Dryer motor hums and remains idle (won't spin drum) when started. Have to manually spin drum then it works fine. Is there a seperate aspect to winding aspect of motor or should the motor itself be replaced? Is this common ?
1 Answer Hello PJ. The motor is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. It is not common but does happen. Read More...
Mike January 08, 2015 for Model Number LG Dryer - DLEX3360W My dryer only sometimes works. When it doesn't, it will run for about 5-10 seconds then stop. Power stays on however and there are no trouble codes that appear. Occasionally, when it stops running, you can smell a faint burning smell as well. Please advise? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Mike. Make sure the drum is not binding up in the unit. If not, you will need to order and replace the drive motor on the unit. Read More...
Bret N October 08, 2014 for Model Number kenmore dryer 79691272210 Our dryer quit heating but spins on all cycles just no heat to dry. The repair company said the drum motor is bad? He explained how they work but I am not sure the motor controls the heat. What is wrong?
1 Answer Bret, It is very possible that the motor could be the cause. You would want to check all the thermostats for continuity. There are 2 components other than the thermostats which would cause the heating element not to work. First is the motor and second the timer. The best option is to disconnect the power to the unit and access the heating element. Disconnect one wire that is going to the heating element, preferably the one on the thermostat side. Plug the unit back up and using a multimeter you will want to turn the dryer on and test for 120 vac at the terminal on the heater where the wire was disconnected. What this will do is eliminate the heater element itself and the motor. If there is 120 vac at this point then you know the heater is good and the motor is good because the other 120 vac coming through the thermostats is the timer side of the circuit. If there is not 120 vac at that point then you will want to test the other terminal on the heater and check for 120 vac. If there is not 120 vac then the motor would be bad and if there is 120 vac then the heater would be the issue. Read More...
Brian April 04, 2014 for Model Number Whirlpool LEQ9508PW0 Dryer Installed replacement motor, wiring Harness is correctly connected. Motor makes no sound. No spin, or noise. Just dead. Fuses checked, thermal cutoff checks normal.
1 Answer Hello Brian, If you remembered to plug the unit back in, have you checked the breaker and verified voltage to the unit? Also, did you reconnect the wiring connector to the door switch? This is common on this model to be overlooked. Read More...
Monica March 17, 2014 for Model Number LG TROMM DLE7177RM My dryer has been working sporadically. It will turn on and work fine most of the time, but then it will stop shortly after beginning a new cycle and make a clicking sound, two close clicks three times. There is a very slight burning smell. If I attempt to restart the cycle it will just give me the clicking and sit there. If do not turn off the unit, it will restart on its own and continue the cycle as if nothing has happened. The dryer is 6 years old, and I've yet to replace any parts, I assume I'm due for a belt, but don't just want to go spending the little money I have replacing things that aren't broken. I want to get what I need and get it fixed at a minimal cost. I disassembled the dryer and cleaned it out, removing the drum and everything. The unit has nary a speck of lint in there. The exhaust line is clean, and the outside vent is clean as well. The oddest (and most concerning thing) is that I can get it to run, but only if the lid is off. I am a DIYer so I just need guidance on what I should invest in to repair this issue. I'm not finding any info on any of the repair sites that match my circumstances so I'm finally asking this question.
1 Answer Hello Monica. It sounds like the motor is overheating. Check and make sure the drum is not binding. If not, replace the motor on the unit. Read More...
Bambi7719 March 06, 2014 for Model Number DLG5988 My dryer was running and began making a thumping noise and humming sound. We stopped it to investigate only to have it not start again. It does turn on, but when you push the start button it only hums and the drum will not turn. We removed the top and can turn the drum while pushing the start button will get it going. Is this a sign there is a problem with the motor, or something else? Thanks.
1 Answer Hello Bambi, This is an indication of a failed start winding in the motor assembly 4681EL1008A. Read More...
Paul V. March 02, 2014 for Model Number LG DLG5932W DRYER My LG dryer which is now 13 years old sounds to be getting louder and a high-low sort of laboring motor noise can be heard. It works and dries and functions ok, but the motor is loud and vibrating. It was a quiet dryer but for about a month now, a loud, vibrating, high low, sounds is present when in use. Whether air dry or heat still loud. Also when the dryer cycle is done and turns off, after about 5 minutes, it will go on for about a minute then shut off and then will continue until I push the power button off. But I think this is a normal function.
1 Answer Paul, The first thing that you should look at would be the blower wheel and the rollers on the unit. Check the blower wheel for being cracked or having lint build up that has dried on it which could cause it to be off balance and vibrate. The starting for a minute and then shutting off is for wrinkle guard. The Rollers you will want to make sure that they are turning freely and may need to be lubed with a thin coat of lithium grease. Paul February 11, 2014 for Model Number DLG5988s My LG dryer is making a loud clacking noise. I cleaned and oiled the rollers and it is still doing it so I checked the belt tensioner and rotated the motor manually and could not reproduce the sound until I put it together and ran it. Also it doesn't do it right away it takes about a minute or so and I'm beginning to think its the motor. I know if I can fix this that load screaming noise coming from my wife will go away also.
1 Answer Paul, You will want to access the blower wheel to make sure that there is nothing caught in the wheel that would be making the noise. Read More...
Jay February 02, 2014 for Model Number Lg dle8377nm My problem is my dryer shuts off after it runs for a while. It will not power back on until it cools off. When I first submitted problem we decided it was the motor but that did not fix the problem. Could it be a thermostat or control board?
1 Answer Hello Jay. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the motor is bad and will need to be replaced. Make sure nothing is binding the drum keeping it from running. Read More...
Jay January 24, 2014 for Model Number Dle8377nm My first question was about my dryer shutting of after it is in use and will not power up until it sits for while. We thought it was the motor. That did not fix it. What next?
1 Answer Jay, With the dryer motor not correcting the issue you will want to check to make sure that the power cord connection to the terminal block is good and check to make sure that there is not power loss at the power supply when in use. If there is an issue with the wiring then it will need to be corrected. If this checks ok then the control board 6871EL1013C would be the issue. Read More...
