The Dryer Ignitor is an OEM part for LG dryers. It is crucial for the ignition process in gas dryers, responsible for lighting the gas burner that provides heat for drying clothes. This ignitor must heat up to a high temperature to ignite the gas, and its proper function is essential for the dryer to operate safely and efficiently.

Symptoms of a bad Dryer Ignitor include:

  • The dryer not heating up, even though all other functions are working correctly.
  • The gas valve opening but no flame being produced, indicating the ignitor isn't reaching the necessary temperature.
  • Intermittent heating, where the dryer sometimes produces heat and other times does not.

Causes of a bad dryer ignitor can include thermal fuse issues, a broken or malfunctioning ignitor due to wear and tear, or electrical problems affecting power delivery to the ignitor.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Lg Dryer Igniter (Part Number: OEM13318869)

Angeedee, Possibilities will include your gas valve that has the coil. Weak igniter, exhaust thermister out of spec, faulty relay on the main control board. Ordering parts before testing could get expensive and if you take photos of how you remove panels to gain access you can leave it apart till the part comes in since it is not drying. Just use caution if you choose to do this and have small kids because the cabinet is very sharp.

Steven, This could be from an excess of the agent in the gas for the smell not burning off completely. You may want a technician or your gas company to do a leak check to be safe.

Robert, Thanks for the question!!! It sounds like your radiant sensor 6501EL3001A could be sticking open. The radiant sensor opens when the ignitor is hot enough to light the gas. If the sensor sticks open, the coils on the valve would be operating when the ignitor is not hot enough.

Andre, For the dryer, not heating, you will want to test the thermostats, test the heater and test to see if there is power getting to the heater.

Iver, Most of the time when the igniter has a short life is because of weak filament damaged during install or before and make sure to not touch the filament, oils from your skin can damage the ignitor.

I have an LG gas dryer. I just changed out the igniter in this unit, and everything worked great - I heard it fire up, I felt the heat, etc. So, I filled it with a half-load of laundry and let it run. To my surprise, at the end of the cycle, the clothes were still damp (and cold'ish). Now when I start it up, I do not hear the fire start up and I do not feel any warmth. I hate the thought of taking this stupid thing apart again. I cant imagine the new igniter burned out already - is that even possible? Any ideas where I should look and/or why this may be? Ugh!

Shade Tree, You will need to check the wiring to the gas valve, and the gas supply to the dryer. Based on your post information, if the problem persists, you'll most likely need a new gas valve( the solenoids on the valve are weak and "dropping out" after being energized for a while during the heating cycle. You'll need your model number to determine if the solenoids are available, or if you'll need to replace the complete valve assembly.

Chuck for Model Number DLG0332W

Hi. My LG Tromm Gas Dryer motor recently went out so we replaced it. Before it was replaced the flame sensor worked and the dryer lit and got hot. Now that the new motor is in the flame sensor won’t glow and it will not light. We also took off the gas line and turned on the valve for a quick second and confirmed that gas is getting to the dryer. We have checked the flame sensor and thermo for continuity and they look good as well. Does the motor have anything to do with the ignition? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

1 Answer

Hello Chuck. Yes, it does but you need to check for a broke ignitor or a wiring issue to see if something got broke or pulled off during the motor install. Also, make sure the ignitor is 1/8" to 1/4" from the end of the burner. Thank you.

Kevin for Model Number DLGY1702V

Please help, and thank you. My dryer won't heat up. I have checked the following: thermistor, thermostat next to the thermistor, both high limit thermostats, flame sensor, igniter, gas valve, gas line (both inside the dryer and the main line leading to it), and cleaned the exhaust channel (there was no build up of lint, etc.). Everything checked out within desired range for continuity. The igniter cycles on and off as it should, but no gas is coming out. Mistakenly, I went ahead and replaced the gas valve to make sure the solenoids weren't malfunctioning, but still no gas or heat. I also replaced the one of the thermostats because one of the leads broke off when I was removing it to test. The only thing I haven't tested is the control board. Could that be the problem?

1 Answer

Kevin, With the igniter coming on then this would not have anything to do with the control board or the motor of the unit. With no gas flowing, make sure that the flame sensor has continuity when in the cold state and that the when the igniter gets hot that the flame sensor will become an open circuit. If it does not then this will be a bad flame sensor. That would be the most likely cause if there is gas turned on at the unit itself.

Miguel for Model Number DLGX3371V

Before I replace the igniter I check for continuity and amtrol I knew my igniter was damaged I was not getting the correct 3.2 - 3.5. I also did not have continuity. After replacing the igniter I found that the gas was not opening so I replace the gas today. I had already checked the limit switches for continuity everything is checking out. But, the oven is still not heating. I did check the flame sensor for continuity it is also checking out please help I am pulling my hair out as we speak. Just kidding

1 Answer

Miguel, If the igniter is good, flame sensor is good and the gas valves are good then test all the thermostats to make sure that they have continuity. If this checks ok then the most likely cause for this issue will be a faulty control board.
