The Dryer Ignitor is an OEM part for LG dryers. It is crucial for the ignition process in gas dryers, responsible for lighting the gas burner that provides heat for drying clothes. This ignitor must heat up to a high temperature to ignite the gas, and its proper function is essential for the dryer to operate safely and efficiently.

Symptoms of a bad Dryer Ignitor include:

  • The dryer not heating up, even though all other functions are working correctly.
  • The gas valve opening but no flame being produced, indicating the ignitor isn't reaching the necessary temperature.
  • Intermittent heating, where the dryer sometimes produces heat and other times does not.

Causes of a bad dryer ignitor can include thermal fuse issues, a broken or malfunctioning ignitor due to wear and tear, or electrical problems affecting power delivery to the ignitor.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Kenmore models.

21Mojo21, This unit has a thermistor on it 6323EL2001B and will want to check this thermistor to make sure that it is good. If the thermistor checks ok then this would most likely be a faulty control board.

Vinnie, You could put just a little WD 40 on the screw but will want to make sure that you clean up any residue after screw is out. It may be necessary to drill the screw out.

Chris, Check and make sure you have gas supplied to the dryer, You may want to "crack" the supply line where it attaches to the gas valve to make sure you have gas at the valve. Based on your information, the burner igniter and flane sensor are working ( the igniter cycles off and on). The problem would be in the gas valve solenoid(s) or the internal workings of the valve body. You can check the solenoids for a resistance readings or a "closed" circuit, but you'll most likely need a new 5221EL2002A / 5221EL2002A gas valve.

Frank, In order for the gas valve to open the igniter must draw a current. If there is a gas smell without the igniter lighting the burner then you will want to check to make sure that the burner does not have rust on the ports or clogs. If this checks ok and there is the gas smell without the igniter lighting then the gas valve would be faulty.

Hello Gunther, There is no reason why changing the orifice would cause this. I would first double check the electrical connections. Since the gas valve cannot open until the ignitor is pulling from 3.2 to 3.6 amps of current, the ignitor is most likely not the issue. You should, however, check the burner assembly for rust and proper installation/positioning.

Don for Model Number LG5318EL3001A

I replaced the igniter, the lint screen, and cleaned all the lint from the dryer but it still takes a extra long time to dry things. The previous electric dryer worked okay even though the vent has a maximum of bends and is 20+ feet to the outside of the house. The gas dryer now ignites and begins to warm when there are no clothes in it and it gets hot, but after a minute or two I check it again its not as hot. I'm thinking the sensor might be faulty. What else do think could be the matter?

Hello Don. If the flame comes on and goes out and does not come back on, this is usually a sign the gas valve is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.
