The Ice Maker Cooling Fan Assembly is an OEM replacement part for LG refrigerators. The purpose of this component is to circulate the air that goes into the ice compartment so that the water freezes in the ice maker to make the ice. It also runs intermittently to ensure the ice that has been made remains frozen.

Causes of a bad cooling fan assembly can include failure of the electric motor or fan blade over time due to prolonged use. Bearing wear is also common with extended operation of moving parts like the fan blade.

Symptoms of a bad cooling fan assembly include:

  • Inconsistent or infrequent ice production
  • Warm spots developing within the freezer compartment
  • Vibrations, rubbing, or grinding noises from the fan motor area
  • Inefficient freezing of items stored in the freezer

Replace yours today with this genuine OEM LG cooling fan assembly to restore optimized temperature control.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore refrigerators.

Hello Tom, A motor should not read open but will read a resistance. As far as the exact resistance, we would have to have a model number so we could look up the wiring diagram on the unit. This may still not give the exact resistance reading, but is the only way we could check to see if the manufacturer even listed it for the model.

Frank, You will need to pull out the freezer drawer and take off the door and basket, remove the upper basket and then remove the rear wall in the freezer compartment. This issue will likely have to do with ice build up around the fan motor.

Robert, The ER IF error code is a ice fan error. There are no screws to remove and the best way to remove it would be to get something with a hook and at the top air vent, hook at the end of the vent and pull out. Once loose it should be easy to remove.
