The Gas Valve Assembly is an OEM replacement part for LG gas dryers. It precisely controls the flow of gas to the burner unit during drying cycles.

Symptoms of a faulty gas valve include:

  • Inadequate or inconsistent heating
  • Burner failure to ignite properly
  • Error codes related to gas or pilot light issues

Causes may involve wear and tear of valve seals over extended use, blockages limiting gas flow, or damage like dents that compromise valve integrity.

This authentic LG assembly is compatible with select Kenmore brand models.

Colin, The only thing coming to mind could be a clogged orifice from the canisters or pressure. Hopefully when purchased you did switch the orifice for LP and adjust the valve for LP.

Joshua for Model Number wkgx201hba

I have a brand new wkgx201hba LG washtower. Since we got it the dryer has not worked properly. We have Natural Gas. Sometimes it works flawlessly and other times the ignitor will glow red and just cycle on and off but never ignite a flame. Sometimes when it does this it will run the cycle till the end without codes, other times it will stop and throw a 9A5 code. Usually we can wash/dry one load and then it will be about 50/50 on the 2nd load. You can always forget a third load. LG has been useless in helping us. They keep sending contract techs that don't know the unit at all and have no clue. They wanted me to vent my gas dryer inside because they said it was bad ductwork causing the issue.... Our ductwork is all new and solid metal piping... They have made 4 trips out and replaced the main board and that did not fix it. Now they won't even respond to us so I am looking at taking matters into my own hands. Is there a way I can test this as I was under the impression it might be the gas valve, but as I said sometimes it works sometimes it does not. Thanks

Joshua, the error code indicated is going to be the unit sensing the gas supply is either shut off, partially closed, or the supply hose is pinched. If checking the gas supply shows the hose is not pinched and the supply valve is fully turned on, the next step would be accessing the dryer main power board EBR31002606 and testing voltage output while it is in operation. At the connection BL3, there should be 90VDC from terminal 1 to terminal 2, and 102VDC from terminal 1 to terminal 3. If there is voltage but a flame does not ignite, the failure would likely be in the gas valve 5221EL2002A. The control can be accessed by removing the top panel of the dryer and it would be located on the left side of the appliance.

Peter for Model Number Kenmore 91182

My gas dryer is Kenmore (model: 91182) which is having a problem that the gas valve shuts off after it's lighted up in a couple of minutes. Then it will be lighted up again and shut off in another couple of minutes and then won't be lighted up. Is this caused by defective gas valve coil? If so, is the gas valve assembly (Part Number: AP4457614, Made by: Genuine LG part) compatible with mine (Kenmore, Part number: GPO3131)? My dryer gas valve assembly looks the same as above LG gas valve assembly which is available on appliancepartspros.com. Thanks!

Mike, That is an adjustment screw for when you need to change the unit to LP gas. You would tighten this knob down to convert to LP.

Lac for Model Number LG DLGX3901

Brand new LG gas dryer, DLGX3901. Certified plumber performed the conversion from NG to LP (LG Lp Gas Conversion Kit (Gold) Item #1360705, Model #LPK1). He changed the orifice and adjusted the regulator adjustment screw down to the closed position, but said he did not check the manifold pressure as otherwise suggested on the LP conversion kit instructions because he did not think there was a pressure regulator within the dryer itself (is there?). The dryer sounds like a blow torch, or a malfunctioning gas range burner, when the heat comes on and the sound is constant over time. The clothes do dry. Is this just how these dryers sound (it's much louder than any gas dryer I've ever had), or is there a possibility that the pressure is too high? Is there a regulator within the dryer that can (or should) be adjusted for LP conversion?

1 Answer

LAC, the manufacturer shows the LP conversion orifice kit 383EEL3002R being used with the model provided. The gas valve is going to be a built in regulator system. Based on the information provided, it sounds like the orifice in the kit used is allowing too much pressure through.

George for Model Number DLG2702V

Flames up and dries clothes sometimes. Sometimes flame goes out before dryer is hot. Smell slight gas during cycles. Coils ohm out ok. Sensors and thermistor assembly ohm out ok. Control panel diagnostics negative except flow sensor. No flow sensor light during normal operation. All ducts and vents clean. Is it normal for cooling light to be on and the drying light to blink during the cycle? How long are the flames suppose to stay on? Valves? Igniter? Panel? Thanks!

1 Answer

George, based on your description and information, there is a weak or failing solenoid/coil on the gas valve. Unfortunately, the solenoids aren't available as individual repair parts and you will need to replace the gas valve assembly 5221EL2002A. With an empty drum, the burner flame will usually cycle off in 60 to 90 seconds, the type and size of the load would determine when the gas valve would cycle off(by the thermostat/thermister). You may want to recheck the vent hood (outside) to make sure it's not clogged, collapsed, or damaged and check or replace the high limit thermostat to solve the drying and cooling light dilemma.
