The Gas Valve Assembly is an OEM replacement part for LG gas dryers. It precisely controls the flow of gas to the burner unit during drying cycles.

Symptoms of a faulty gas valve include:

  • Inadequate or inconsistent heating
  • Burner failure to ignite properly
  • Error codes related to gas or pilot light issues

Causes may involve wear and tear of valve seals over extended use, blockages limiting gas flow, or damage like dents that compromise valve integrity.

This authentic LG assembly is compatible with select Kenmore brand models.

Hello Rick, only the gas valve would be needed if it is the cause of the leak, be sure to test all tubing connections for possible leaks after the repair.

Russ, the valve assembly 5221EL2002A comes set for natural gas from the manufacturer. To change it to LP, the conversion parts on the current one can be transferred over to the new valve.

Jason, the Polarity of the wiring won't be the issue. Make sure you mark, label, or photograph the wiring harness on the gas valve before you remove them, so you can install the correct wires to the correct solenoid. There is also a "how-to" video attached to the gas valve part number in the AppliancePartsPros.com parts order screen that may be helpful as well. Thanks,

Attila, the gas valve 5221EL2002A would be the likely cause. With the power cord unplugged and the top panel removed, the gas valve can be tested for resistance from the main control at the connection BL3. From the red wire to the pink wire, the resistance should measure 1.5KO. From the red wire to the white wire, the resistance should measure between 1.5KO to 2.5KO. If the coils do not test within range, the gas valve would need to be replaced. If they do test within range, it is likely that the main control EBR36858804 (the manufacturer has discontinued this part and it is no longer available) is not consistently providing 90VDC to the valve.

Hello Steve, on this model dryer the main control board powers the gas safety valves directly, with a new ignitor and radiant sensor, and low voltage showing at the coils then the control board is at fault, part EBR33640902.

Steve for Model Number LG DLG2526W

Hello, I have an LG DLG2526W dryer. It stopped drying and we smelled natural gas. The igniter glows orange for several seconds but the gas doesn't ignite. It will repeat the process of glowing and turning off several times until I smell gas and turn off the machine. The igniter is getting 120VAC and the resistance is 320 ohms (I don't have an amp meter). The dryer is still stacked and I've been reluctant to take off the front panel to check out the gas valve. Any suggestions?

Hello Steve, the gas valve coils are failing , they are part of the gas valve assembly 5221EL2002A also the flame sensor 6501EL3001A should be replaced at the same time as they work together.

Chad, as the ignitor is glowing, the dryer is trying to call for heat. As this is the case, either the main control EBR36858802 is not sending 90VDC (testing can be done at connection YL3) to the coils or there is a broken wire.

Molly for Model Number DLG0332W

I recently changed this dryer from Natural Gas to LP with the conversion kit. Installed orifice and reset gas valve to LP position. The dryer starts, fires up, stays on a while then stops heating. I check the reset button on what I think is the high level thermostat and it is tripped. I push and reset this and it fires up again but quits shortly after. Is my problem the gas valve assembly or the thermostat?? I was assured the previous owner did not have any problems with the dryer on Natural Gas.

Molly, It is recommended that the ventilation is checked through the dryer as well as through the vent going outside for any lint clogs as this can cause airflow to not allow heat to pass through properly. The thermistor 6323EL2001B would need to be tested as well and it should read 10KO resistance at room temperature. A hairdryer can be used to heat up the thermistor and the resistance should decrease as follows: 7.7KO at 90°F, 6.2KO at 100°F, and 5.2KO at 110°F. If the thermistor tests properly, then the gas valve coils 5221EL2002A can be tested and should measure 1.5 to 2.5KO on each coil. If the coils test good, then the likely failure would be the main control 6871EC1061C (unfortunately, the main control has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available).

Tracie, if the flames are good and the noise is only an initial sound like a torch first igniting, then the operation is normal. If the loud sound continues for a couple of minutes, then the valve would need to be changed as this can be an indicator that the gas is not properly being burned during operation.

Lawrence, This issue does sound like it would be caused by a gas burner valve assembly that is faulty.
