The Drum Seal is an OEM part for LG dryers. This part ensures a tight seal between the dryer drum and the dryer body, preventing hot air from escaping and maintaining the efficiency of the drying process. A well-functioning drum seal is important for the best dryer performance, contributing to energy efficiency and the prevention of unnecessary wear on clothing during the drying cycle.

Causes of a bad drum seal can range from natural wear and tear over time to overloading the dryer, which can strain and stretch the seal, leading to a poor fit.

Symptoms of a bad Drum Seal include:

  • Clothes taking longer to dry
  • Increased energy usage due to loss of heat
  • Excessive lint and debris outside of the lint filter area
  • A noticeable gap between the dryer drum and the dryer body

This OEM LG part is also compatible with some Kenmore models.

Kim, you may want to inspect the rollers 4581EL3001E to ensure they are not seized up or worn down as this can cause the drum to not rotate properly. You may also want to inspect the ventilation through the house to ensure that there are no clogs from lint. These two items together can cause drying issues as the drum will not rotate properly and the dryer would not have good airflow to dry.

Kevin, You can visually check the rear drum bearing, by looking at the felt seal in the gap between the drum and the rear bulkhead. You'd be looking for holes or tears and missing areas. The front drum seal/bearing isn't as easy, you'll need to remove the front panel and check the bearing and seal attached to the inside of the front panel around the door opening. There is always some "play" in the drum and bulkhead area. We wouldn't expect the moisture sensor to be an issue, but you may want to "clean" the assembly especially the metal bars, with a rag and rubbing alcohol, this will usually remove any fabric softener residue or debris that could cause an issue if the dryer is shutting off too soon. As this should be gas dryer, you most likely have a set of weak gas valve solenoids 279834 causing the dryer to heat intermittently, and taking too long to dry the load.
