The Compressor Start Relay is an OEM part for LG refrigerators, playing a critical role in the starting mechanism of the compressor. This small but crucial component helps to kickstart the compressor, enabling it to begin the refrigeration cycle that cools the interior of the fridge.

Causes of a bad Compressor Start Relay include wear and tear over time, electrical surges that can damage the relay, or overheating of the compressor unit.

Symptoms of a bad Compressor Start Relay include:

  • The refrigerator failing to cool properly or maintain the set temperature.
  • A noticeable increase in the electric bill due to the refrigerator working harder to maintain temperatures.
  • Strange noises, such as clicking sounds from the compressor area
  • The compressor not starting at all, leading to a complete lack of cooling within the refrigerator.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Lg Compressor Start Relay (Part Number: OEM17848026)

1 Answer

Rick, If the compressor is not starting then it would most likely be the PTC thermistor/start relay. If you install this and it does not come on then the compressor would be faulty. There is no real way to test the start relay. You can also test to make sure that there is power getting to the relay.

Robert for Model Number LG LFX 21960ST

Hello. I've been working on getting an older LG refrigerator (LFX 21960ST) running again after it stopped cooling and all the ice melted and food thawed. It had been clicking loudly for about a day before it all went south. Determined it was the compressor start relay. The overload protector clicks, then click again after about 15 seconds, then silent for couple of minutes, then clicks, and clicks again after 15 seconds -- and continues this cycle without the compressor activates. As others have noted with the same issue, my relay is three-bladed (red top left, pink bottom left, blue bottom right). The compressor is an Embraco EGZ 90HLP if that makes a difference. Will your compressor start relay (Part Number 6749C-0014E (AP5949339) work for me? And how should I connect the wires? Thanks so much!

1 Answer

Robert, Yes, this compressor start relay 6749C-0014E will work but you will not need to connect the 2 wires on the left side of the relay. They are just for the capacitor which is not needed for the compressor to run.

Martez for Model Number LFX25971ST

I bought a used LG refrigerator and it worked for quite a while. Now it has stopped running. I saw that it had a 3 and 1 hard start on it. I replaced the hard start and it still wasn't coming on. I have replaced the compressor, the board and the relay and overload and still nothing. I also noticed that there are two wires running to the relay and overload, but there are two prong on the relay and one on the overload. How am I suppose to wire those with two wires coming from the fridge ?

1 Answer

Martez, the black wire (voltage wire) will go to the overload while the blue wire (neutral wire) will go to terminal 3 (right hand terminal) of the start relay.

Hello Sal, check that the compressor, condenser fan, and evap fan are running. Also if there is heavy frost build-up inside the rear wall of the freezer section, if all are ok there is likely a sealed system problem.

Glenn for Model Number Kenmore Elite 795.78353.800 (LG)

Hello, Looking to replace what the Sears Tech referred to as the compressor relay for my 2008 Kenmore Elite refrigerator (this is a LG refrigerator; Model No. 795.78353.800). The Tech said the original part was no longer available, which I believe to be true based on my own research. I believe the original part is a combo thermal overload & relay in one unit. Is Part No, 6749C-0014E the correct replacement part? If not, what part(s) do I need? Thanks!

1 Answer

Mike, Based on the information provided this model does not have a start relay at the compressor. It has an overload protector and wiring harness that connects back to the PCB which controls the running of the compressor. Overload protector -- EBG60663205 PCB {AP5962141]

Valerie, The pink and red wires go to the run capacitor and will not need to use these wires. The Blue wire is the only one that needs to be connected.
