The Compressor Start Relay is an OEM part for LG refrigerators, playing a critical role in the starting mechanism of the compressor. This small but crucial component helps to kickstart the compressor, enabling it to begin the refrigeration cycle that cools the interior of the fridge.

Causes of a bad Compressor Start Relay include wear and tear over time, electrical surges that can damage the relay, or overheating of the compressor unit.

Symptoms of a bad Compressor Start Relay include:

  • The refrigerator failing to cool properly or maintain the set temperature.
  • A noticeable increase in the electric bill due to the refrigerator working harder to maintain temperatures.
  • Strange noises, such as clicking sounds from the compressor area
  • The compressor not starting at all, leading to a complete lack of cooling within the refrigerator.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with some Kenmore models.

Lorenzo, If the compressor is starting and running then it is not likely to be a start device. Based on the information provided you could have an electrical or electronic issue.

Dan for Model Number 795.75196400

My fridge and freezer won't maintain temp. The condenser coils seem reasonably clean; no frost on evap coils; the condenser and evap fans appear to be functional (no apparent mechanical issues, since the fans spin I haven't checked for any potential electrical issues with their motors). I think the compressor is running (though can't confirm); it seems quiet, though feels warm. After reading online, I'm wondering if the start relay, capacitor, and/or overload protector could be the culprit. Thoughts? How can I tell if the compressor is bad? Is it more likely one of the three aforementioned electrical components (if so, which)? Thank you!!!

Hello Dan, thank you for contacting APP, It is possible that the Start Relay 6749C-0014E, Start Capacitor 0CZZJB2014L, or Overload Protector 6750C-0005P has failed and I normally suggest testing or replacing these components before looking at replacing the compressor. You can test the compressor start and run windings for Os resistance, but these may read in range and the compressor be locked up and unable to start.

Roger, the display showing 22 would indicate that the test button was pressed twice on the control and a specific test is occurring. During normal operation, if the compressor vibrates but the unit does not cool down, there is a sealed system failure. If it does not, there should be a red LED on the main control that will flash if the control has identified a compressor failure. If there is not a flashing light, the main control CSP30021034 would be the most likely cause of failure.

Teresa M, Your model has an electronic board so the relay on the board may be what is clicking or the compressor could be the issue.

Bruno for Model Number LFC23760ST

Hello! We have a 14 year old LG LFC23760ST with a freezer that is not cooling down enough (I changed out the motherboard about 7 years ago). I cleaned out the coils and checked the compressor, which feels and sounds just fine. All fans appear to be working. No noise or vibration from anything. Minor frost on the back panel of the freezer but was able to brush it off with my hand. I'm thinking of replacing the run capacitor and compressor overload protector. I wanted to confirm part numbers before ordering. Any thoughts on what the issue could be is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Bruno, You will need to pull the rear wall in the freezer compartment and check to see what the frost pattern looks like on the evaporator coils. If there is heavy frost then this will be a defrost issue in which you will want to test the defrost heater and defrost sensor to make sure that they are good. If they are good then the control board would be faulty and need to be replaced.

Walter, the start relay 6749C-0014E can be tested for resistance and it should measure between 5 to 8.6 Ohms when testing the side where the compressor pins plug in. If the resistance is not within this range, it would need to be replaced. If it is within this range, the compressor TCA35931726 would be the likely cause of failure.

Mark, This model does not use a start relay. It uses an inverter which is part of the main control board. But to determine the issue you would want to consult the tech sheet and check the resistance of the compressor windings and verify the voltage to the compressor. The tech sheet may also have compressor diagnostics outlined as well.

Michael, This unit does not use a start device and has an inverter built into the main control board that will operate the compressor. Test to see if there is power getting to the compressor and if there is then the compressor will be the issue. If there is no power to the compressor then the main board would need to be replaced.
