The Water Inlet Valve Assembly is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. This part controls the flow of water into the refrigerator's ice maker and water dispenser. By opening and closing at specific times, it ensures the proper amount of water is supplied for making ice or dispensing water.

Causes of a bad water inlet valve include clogs from sediment, failure of the solenoids, or cracks in the valve body.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve Assembly include:

  • No water being dispensed
  • Slow or irregular water flow from the dispenser
  • Leaks occurring at the back of the refrigerator where the valve is located
  • The ice maker not producing ice or producing very small ice cubes

This OEM LG part is also compatible with some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Lg Water Inlet Valve Assembly (Part Number: OEM15993723)

1 Answer

E., as the manufacturer recommends the water valve AJU72992603 the only step that can be done is identifying the part number directly off of the original water valve. There should be a silver sticker with a part number on the right side.

Hello Bill, If the water continues to flow when the switch is deactivated, this indicates a water valve, AJU74532703 and AJU72992603, failure if there are no harness issues. Be sure to check the harness at the door hinge. The last thing to try would be the control board since we cannot pull information from this manufacturer. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

John, the wires at the hinge will need to be inspected for any breaks. If the wires are in good condition, then the most likely failure would be the sub PCB ABQ72940028 located at the top of the left door (based on the information that has been provided).

Jas, the inlet tube going into the ice maker will need to be inspected for any ice blockages. If there is an ice blockage, it will need to be cleared and the water valve AJU74532703 would need to be replaced. If there is not an ice blockage, the valve will need to be accessed, the door open with the door switch taped into a closed position, and the ice maker reset. With the ice maker going through a cycle, it should send voltage to the valve near the end of its cycle. If the 1/4" solenoid on the valve gets voltage, then the valve is bad. If it does not get voltage, then the ice maker is bad as it is not calling for water. The 14 cube ice maker is part number AEQ73110205 (Note: 14 cube - IMPORTANT: The secondary (smaller) wire connector has 6 wires in it. If your original ice maker has a 3 wire connector, see part number AEQ73110203 )

Randy, With the unit only filling with ice when the reset button is pushed then this would normally be an icemaker issue. Since the ice maker has been replaced, check the wiring to the ice maker and water valve. Also, check the wiring harness at the top of the door to make sure that there is no damage to the wiring. If all this is ok then the issue will most likely be a control board issue.

Paul for Model Number LFX31925ST

Water is leaking into the chute where ice leaves ice storage bin to get dispensed. The water seems to travel through the ice storage bin resulting in the auger on the bottom of the ice storage bin eventually freezing completely with ice cubes mixed with water. There ends up being a block of ice from the bottom of the bin into the chute which makes it really difficult to remove the bin. My suspicion is that when the ice tray is filled water from the ice tray is overflowing into the bin. This problem ceases to I turn off the switch on the ice maker even when the bin is full with ice.

1 Answer

Paul, This issue would appear to be caused by a faulty water valve allowing too much water into the ice maker when it cycles.

Tim, as there are many variations of assembly, if you could provide the model number for your appliance in a new inquiry, this will allow for the most accurate information possible. Generally, the key things to look for in this situation are air leaks to the ice bin section, cracks in the ice tray, or signs of water in the fill tube freezing indicating a leaking valve.

Chris for Model Number lfsx24623d

I recently purchased this refrigerator, and found that the ice machine is only good for about 2 ice making cycles, and then the tip of the water line freezes up. Once thawed with a blow dryer, it will run 2 more cycles and freeze. I checked the water supply to the unit, and verified that there is 60 psi coming to the refrigerator. The user guide specifies minimum 40 psi with a water filter. Upon testing the water flow from the water dispenser, it cannot fill an 8 ounce glass of water in less than 8 seconds (or whatever LG specifies). It takes more like 10 -12 seconds. I attempted this both with the water filter in place, as well as the bypass plug. Would it be safe to bet that the water valve is faulty? On another note, when dispensing water, the valve does make an audible "buzzing" sound.

1 Answer

Chris, With the water pressure being good then this issue would be caused by a water valve that is seeping and allowing water to trickle into the fill tube and flash freeze. You will need to change the water valve for this issue.

Marion, normally when the dispenser and icemaker start slowing down at the same time, it is an indicator that the water filter is clogging up. You would want to start by replacing the water filter or using the filter bypass ABN73019101 to ensure that there are no restrictions in the filter AGF80300702. Once there is verification that there are no restrictions in the filter, if the water flow is still low then you will want to replace the valve assembly AJU72992603.
