For Lg Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve Assembly (Part Number: OEM13336851)

Jeff for Model Number lsc26905tt

I have a few problems that all seem related. The first problem is that anytime the icemaker is making/emptying ice from the ice-cube tray, the dispenser chute will open for a few seconds. I can be in another room and hear the ice maker empty a new batch of ice, and then the chute will open for a few seconds then close. Second issue has to do with the water dispenser, it will not dispense water from the door, instead it makes a puddle on the floor under the refrigerator. Lastly, just recently the light in the ice/water dispenser that turns on when dispensing water/ice has been intermittently flashing like a car turn signal. It will do this for several minutes then eventually stop. Around the same time another problem started occuring, the ice chute flap door will just open and stay open. I can hear the solenoid just buzzing away. If I open the freezer door, the chute closes, but as soon as I close the door, the solenoid kicks back in and opens the chute. The only way I can get it to stop is to unplug the refrigerator, then plug it back in. Sorry for the long description! Don't know if it is the Power Control Board Assembly (AP4858246), the Water Inlet Valve Assembly (AP4445614), and/or the PCB Assembly (AP4439668). Please help, can't really afford a new refrigerator right now. Thank you!

Hello Jeff, You may want to check your connection at the top of the door to see if you have a loose connection. A loose connection can caused these issues. If this checks ok then it sounds like your control board 6871JB1410N may be at fault.

Hello Gary, The issue is the water inlet valve 5221JA2006D. It isn't opening sufficiently to allow the proper volume of water to flow in the timed fill.

Hello John, You should check the fill tube for an ice accumulation. You should also b aware that the water to the ice maker does not pass through the water filter or the water tank. I'm sure you noticed when you changed the water valve that it is a dual stage valve. There is a separate valve and water line for the ice maker and the water dispense. If the fill tube to the ice maker is clear, the ice maker 5989JA1005D will require replacement.

Hello Joe, Did you install a new water filter? If you did, it has to fill with water before the water can come out of the dispenser. The water valve you installed can very possibly be defective from the manufacturer. You should also check to make sure the water supply line didn't get crimped while pushing the unit back into place.

Hello, I need to fix my ice maker but I am not sure if the ice maker assembly is the problem, or the water valve. It will make a couple of trays of ice then water will drip down and freeze, like a little icicle, and freeze the control lever in place. It does it on the left hand side of the ice maker, near where the tray joins the ice maker controls. Once it freezes the arm, it can't move and no more ice. If I break the icicle away, it starts making ice again. Does this sound like the water valve is the problem and overfilling the tray, leading to the frozen overflow? Thanks!

Hello Jake, This can be caused by the water inlet valve 5221JA2006D or the ice maker AEQ36756901 electrical contacts in the ice maker motor module. The only way to pin down the exact cause is by putting test leads on the water inlet valve and cycling the ice maker. If the voltage is on the valve for longer than 7 seconds, the ice maker is at fault. If the voltage is gone in 7 seconds, the water valve is the cause.

Hello Drew. Remove there the water line goes to the filter housing and press the dispenser. If water comes out, the valve is good. If not, then the valve needs to be replaced. If there is water there, then the tank may be frozen on the unit, or the filter is bad on the unit.

Based on the info that I have gotten from the posted questions it appears that the water pump is the problem. Before ordering the pump I wanted to experiment and make sure I could disconnect the existing pump and reinstall the new ones. I am having trouble removing the waterlines from the pump. I remove the snap ring and tried puliing the line loose, but I can't get it to remove. Can you please provide info on how to remove the lines from the pump? Many Thanks, Jeff

Hello Jeff, I think when you say the pump that you are referring to the water inlet valve. It actually isn't a pump, it just opens to allow the water pressure to pass until it closes again. As far as the John Guess fittings that the water lines are fitted into, push the line in hard and hold the ring around it toward the water valve while pulling the water line out of the valve. To re-seat it into the valve, push the water line into the hole, then push a little harder and you will feel the line "pop" in a little further. When this happens, pull on the line to seat it into the seal fitting. Note: Before you insert the water line, you should look at the end of the water line. It should be smooth to the end with no indentations. When the line has been installed for a long period of time, about 1/4 of an inch from the end of the line, a small indentation will develop all the way around the line where the seal has been seated. If you can feel this, the manufacturer recommends to cut the end of the line off even with the indentation. Also, if there are "U" clips around the rings, they must first be removed before the line will come out of the fitting. These are installed by the manufacturer to prevent the water line from being inadvertently pulled loose.

Hi JD. If you only replace the tubes one at a time then it will be correct on the new water valve part # 5221JA2006D. On each tube there is a color band that will correspond to the valve inserts. Make sure that you get the tubing pushed in fully in between the 2-black bands and so the tubes cannot be pushed in any more. The service manual does not give any instructions to the tubing assignments. Thank You.
