Cozette August 29, 2018 for Model Number dv42h5200ep/a3 After the dryer has been sitting, I usually have to rotate the drum in reverse to get the dryer to start, otherwise it just hums. Additionally, when I rotate I often hear a noise like a ball dropping. Are the rollers my problem or the motor itself?

Grant April 19, 2018 for Model Number DC97-16782A When I start the dryer it will show more than 40 minutes. It runs and heats but after a couple of minutes it switches to 1 minute (cooling) and shuts off after that minute. I can start it right back up so it is not overheating. I tried the timed dry cycle, the same thing happened.

I intend on replacing the idler wheel due to a squeaking sound. Can I lubricate the shaft that the idler wheel mounts upon? Can I lubricate or service the drum support rollers? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Jason, You will have to open the unit and spin the rollers to see if they spin freely. If not, they will require replacement. Never lubricate a roller inside a dryer with a wet lubricant since lint will stick to it and be pulled into the bearing, causing the bearing to fail sooner than if installed dry. These are impregnated with a dry lubricant from the manufacturer. If you absolutely insist on lubricating, use a dry lubricant like corn starch or baby powder since graphite will stain clothes should it find its' way into the load. Read More...
