Ronald, You will want to test the main control board at Connector 75 Pin 1 Gray wire to Pin 2 Sky Blue wire for between 7 to 12 Vdc. If there is not proper voltage, replace the control board.

David for Model Number RF4287HARS/XAA

Model: RF4287HARS/XAA (no suffix) Symptoms: ice build-up on fridge evap coils, no error codes, manual thermometer in fridge reports 50-55F. (Fridge is set to 40F, no error codes, display reports internal fridge temp of 40F) After defrosting and drying everything out, I reconnected the evap cover and let the compressor start up. It's getting plenty cold, but the evap fan never starts up as far as I can tell. How do I test the currently installed fan to see if it is good? Would like to eliminate that before proceeding to sensors, heater, etc. Thanks!

David, You will have to make sure that the door switches are in the closed position as the fan will not run with the doors open. If there are reed switches just put magnets up to them to see if the fan comes on.

Lorenzo, the freezer evaporator would need to be inspected to identify if it has an excessive frost build-up. If it does, the defrost heater DA47-00244C would need to be tested for 55 Ohms of resistance and the bi-metal DA47-00243R should have continuity. If they test good, the next step would be identifying if the defrost sensor DA32-00027B is reading properly.

Lorenzo, The 4e Error code will be a faulty freezer defrost sensor that is located on the evaporator coil in the freezer compartment behind the back wall. The part number is DA32-00033C.

James for Model Number RF266AEPN

I came home after a couple days out of town to find my freezer drawer cracked open. The temp was flashing and I heard a louder than normal hum coming from the back of the fridge. After cleaning it out, I closed the door and eventually the temp in the freezer went back to the set point of -2 degrees. But the loud humming never went away. In fact the humming never stops unless I open the freezer drawer. Then it comes back shortly after closing it. I thought maybe it was the compressor but after getting behind it, the sound does not come from the compressor but more from the ice maker area on the other side. I turned the ice maker off and that didn’t stop the noise. Then i came to suspect the evaporator fan motor as going bad. Would this seem like the most likely culprit? In your video to replace DA31-00146E, it looked like there were two motors on that back freezer panel. What is the part number for the other motor and should I get both just in case? Also do you have the fan part number?

James, This will most likely not be a fan motor going bad but ice build up around the fan blade. Remove the rear wall in the freezer compartment and clean all the ice out from behind there.

Earnest, If the fan is in the off position and the fan is running then this will most likely be an issue with the control board on the unit.

Scott, The main control board is what would control the fan but would suggest testing the thermistor in the refrigerator to make sure that it is good. The resistance of the thermistor should be 5K at room temperature of 77 degrees.
