Gordo October 17, 2012 for Model Number Maytag mah3000aww both spinner bearing are bad. The back one has a snap ring which removed and then removed the bad back bearing. The front bearing i cannot get out. It appears like there is a different kind of snap ring of sorts but lots of rust. I cannot get the bearing or any keeper snap ring to move. Any comments of help??
1 Answer Gordo, There is no "snap ring" in the front or rear bearing area. It is a factory friction fit, you will need to "tap" it out the front of the tub assembly, with a hammer and drift pin, once you remove the rear bearing, or vice versa. You need to be careful, it doesn't take a lot of force to tap them out, but you can crack or damage the tub assembly, if you're not careful. And the bearings have to be installed with the same clearances and spacing, for the drum to operate properly. Read More...
Robert October 13, 2012 We have front loader washer duet whirlpool and are getting little black spots on our sheets and now the spots are getting bigger and smudged. We read it could be a bearing. Help please!!
1 Answer Robert, A "Duet" washer, Yes an damaged tub bearing could be the cause of the spots on your articles, But the repair would require replacement of the rear tub assembly W10772618. A lot of "stains" on articles are caused by a build up of softner, detergent, dirt and body oils, that accumulate in the tub or hoses, You may want to attempt to clean the tubs usuing a product like "affresh" or a combination of bleach and powder automatic dishwasher detergent, and a long hot wash cycle(you may have to repeat the process a couple of times). Scott J. August 25, 2012 for Model Number Maytag MAH3000BWW My Maytag Neptune washing machine (MAH3000BWW) makes a very loud whine when spinning. Sounds like it's going to take off like an airplane. The manufacturer's user manual says, "The bearings are not repairable or replaceable. Replacement of the complete outer tub assembly is required." Is this true, or can I replace the bearings and seals separately?
1 Answer Hello Scott, Open the door and put one hand inside at the top of the tub. Push up slightly and release several times. If you can feel slack, you will need to replace the outer tub/bearing & seal assembly 22004465 and the spinner support assembly W10181639. If no slack is present, you will need to replace the motor/motor control assembly 12002039. The user manual is correct except that it doesn't mention the spinner support assembly. As an experienced technician, I have tried all of the above. If you don't want to have to do the job again, you will do it correctly the first time. The bearing has to be pressed into the outer tub assembly with a special "jig" at the factory to get it in straight. If it isn't perfectly straight, the new seal will begin seeping soapy water into the new spin bearing and wash the grease out of it. It only takes a few washes before you are back to where you started. Also if you don't put in a new spinner support, the new bearing will have a noticeably shorter lifespan, (less than a year).
