Symptoms of a faulty clutch kit are:

  • The washer tub failing to turn or agitate clothes during wash cycles
  • Delayed starts or intermittent rotation

Hello John. Yes, it sounds like the splutch may be installed wrong or not seated properly into the unit. You will need to double check the splutch. Thank you.

Barbarann A for Model Number MVWC200XW0 model serial c10420780

I have a maytag centential model number MVWC200XW0 serial C10420780. The wash cycle seems to work fine. when it ends ,it ends on done/green light lights up. When I open the top though the lid lock/red comes on and blinks. The only way to get it off is to unplug and replug. I also usually use the drain and spin option. you hear the click... and I really don't hear it spin fast but like slow like water is also in there, when it ends the lid lock is red blinking and that is when i smell this rubber smell like a burning smell. I don't see smoke or anything but can just smell it so I have to unplug it. I actually found out how to check with the blinking lights to see if I can detect what was wrong and when i check the lock button it just clicks on and stays that way so not sure if it is that. Updated on 1/27 .....used the washer today and when it was on regular wash and went to spin you would hear it spin but a loud and i mean loud grinding sound comes from it that I have to unplug it. After a couple of hours i tried again and it just started to hear it spin very slowly abnormally.

Barbarann, You will want to lay the unit on its back and check the splutch assembly but if it checks ok then this will most likely be an issue with the bearings which would be part of the gear case part number W11454741.

Hello Glenn. Check and make sure the large pulley is installed properly and the belt is good. If so, then the next step is checking the shift actuator and the splutch kit and see if they are good on the unit.

Mike, You will want to put the unit into diagnostic mode and see if there are any error codes. In most cases a no spin issue will be caused by a faulty speed sensor which is part of the shift actuator.

William for Model Number 110.20022012

Kenmore Washer about 5 years old. Model 110.20022012, Type 587-07, S/N C14921892 During wash agitation and spin there is a repetitive but not constant loud groaning sound. Not sure if this machine has a clutch that is failing or its the drive belt that is failing? Its quite loud. Has been trouble free until now. I suspect the clutch but will know more when I inspect the drive belt. By the way, this machine doesn't cycle the agitator but rather jerks it in one direction only which is atypical of all other machines I have owned over my lifetime. Find this very odd of a agitator design.

1 Answer

William, The groaning noise would be the motor on the unit running and would be normal for this unit to make this noise. The only other thing that may cause it would be a splutch kit that could be the issue.

Larry, If the agitator is agitating faster than normal then this would most likely be either the agitator may be damaged or could be a gear case that would have internal damage.
