The Check Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This small but crucial component prevents backflow of water into the dishwasher, ensuring that dirty water is properly drained and does not contaminate clean dishes. It plays a vital role in maintaining the efficiency and hygiene of the dishwasher by directing water flow correctly during the wash and drain cycles.

Causes of a bad check valve can include blockages from food particles, mineral deposits from hard water, or wear and tear over time. These issues can impede the valve's function, leading to ineffective drainage and potential backflow problems.

Symptoms of a bad check valve include:

  • Water not draining properly from the dishwasher
  • Dirty water pooling at the bottom of the dishwasher
  • Unpleasant odors from standing water
  • Residue or food particles left on dishes after a wash cycle

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Bart for Model Number Whirlpool Quiet partner 3

Can a check valve in a drain hose go bad? Washer not draining. Tested drain pump with voltmeter and that tested ok. Have run a small drain snake through the drain line on the machine, got several small pieces of glass out of the drain line on the machine. Pulled the whole motor out of the bottom, inspected everything, found no obstruction. Just ran a rinse cycle. The last time I ran a rinse cycle, yesterday, the drain in the disposal ran slowly, I could feel the hot water and the dribble of hot water coming out while the drain pump ran for about 40 seconds. The drain pump then shut off with water still in the bottom of the machine. Today, after pulling the motor and then putting the washer back together, I ran the rinse cycle again. The rinse works, so the circulation pump is working. This time, however, there was no water entering the disposal. I could feel it get warm but no water. I just pulled the washer back out and the drain hose is empty. You can hear the drain pump running for about 40 seconds. The check valve in the bottom of the washer looked normal and flapped up in the space between the grinder and the drain pump.

Bart, If you have had glass in your drain hose then it has gone thru your pump possibly damaging the impeller and and causing the unit not to drain.Either that or a piece of glass will stop up the drain line.

Paul for Model Number Whirlpool

My upper tray dishes weren't being cleaned, so I followed suggestions and found that grinder was clogged. I replaced it, but it keeps clogging. It works fine for a couple of loads, but then has to be cleaned again. It seems to turn fine when on the impeller. Could the impeller be the problem? There is also a small amount of water in the lower well where the grinder sits. Is this normal? Finally, I took the check valve out. It appears normal, but how do you tell? It seems to be just a fixed piece of rubber, so I am not sure what function it might play in all of this. Thanks much for your help.

Hello Paul. It is possible the impeller is bad and not turning the grinder properly. If you replace it and it still continues, then you will need to check the circulation pump.

Dani for Model Number DU1030XTXQ1

I have a Whirlpool Quiet Partner 1 Dishwasher, and hardly any water comes out of the arms. It just leaks down & doesn't spray or make them turn. Everything else works fine. I had the exact same problem with my last Dishwasher so I replaced it with this one and it has been doing this since day one. Which leads me to believe it is not the dishwasher. The water is turned on all the way going to it. The hoses have no kinks or leaks. Please help!!! What could this be??? Thank you.

Dani, Even with the water turned completely on if there is not enough water getting into the unit then this will cause the issue. There could be a restriction in the water supply that is causing this issue. Check to make sure that the water valve is not clogged with debris and check the water pressure to the unit.

Ronnie, You will want to check the filter screens on the unit to ensure that they are not clogged which would cause the issue. Also check to make sure that the impeller on the drain pump is not damage.

Hello Laura, You can still use the dishwasher but it will not clean properly since part of the drain water will mix back in with the wash and rinse water. Also, water from the sink drain may backfill into the dishwasher.

Kevin, The check valve could possibly get stuck in the drain hose and you will need to make sure that you get it out of the drain hose.

Hello David. If you are sure the pump is good and nothing is siphoning back into the unit, you will need to replace the control board on the unit. If water is coming back in, replace the check valve in the unit.
