The Motor Coupling is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This coupling connects the ice dispenser motor to the ice dispensing mechanism, allowing the motor to drive the ice auger and dispense ice effectively.

Causes of a bad motor coupling can include wear and tear from regular use, overloading the ice dispenser, or mechanical failure of the dispenser motor.

Symptoms of a bad motor coupling include:

  • The ice dispenser not functioning or dispensing ice intermittently
  • Unusual noises such as grinding, clicking, or rattling during operation
  • The ice auger not turning or dispensing ice properly
  • Visible cracks, breaks, or wear on the coupling

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Motor Coupling (Part Number: OEM18048483)

Hi Notsohandy. First you will need to see if you have 120vac coming to the auger motor when the door switch is taped shut. Then have someone call for ice cubes. You should have 120vac at the auger motor coupling. Then if you do, you will need to replace the crusher solonoid and the auger motor assembly. The crusher solonoid is part # WP2152713. The auger motor is part # WPW10317991. Thank you.

Hello Newbie. The coupler is stripped out. You will need to pull on the coupler and turn it at the same time with the slipjoint pliers to remove it. These can be hard to do when they are stripped. Hope this helps.

Dave, sounds like you've got a "stripped out" coupler thread. You are holding the motor shaft with a pair of pliers, aren't you ? If you are, then you may want to try pulling out on the coupler and turning, until you get past the stripped thread(s)and finish the removal process. Everything else you're doing is correct. Thanks, and Good Luck.
