The Detergent Dispenser Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers, designed to store and release detergent and rinse aid at the appropriate times during the wash cycle. This component ensures that your dishes are cleaned efficiently by dispensing the correct amount of detergent for optimal washing performance.

Causes of a malfunctioning dispenser can include mechanical failure of the latch or spring mechanism, clogging due to detergent buildup, or electrical issues preventing the dispenser from operating correctly.

Symptoms of a bad Detergent Dispenser Assembly include:

  • Detergent not being dispensed correctly, leading to poorly cleaned dishes.
  • The dispenser door not opening during the cycle or failing to latch properly before starting.
  • Leakage of detergent from the dispenser, indicating a seal failure.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Jeff B for Model Number GU1200XTLQ3

I just replaced mine and it had a few differences like the additional electrical connector and an upper and lower support bracket. None of those differences mattered as they were either addressed in this Q&A section or via the video (greatly appreciated). However, I did match the wiring on mine to be exactly like it was. It had the solid blue on the dishes side and the striped wire was on the other. The video was showing it just the opposite. Everything still seems to be fine and work fine. This is a 12 year old home we bought 2 years ago that had the dishwasher this way and it has been working fine. Should I take the panel off again and switch the wires?

1 Answer

Jeff, It would not be necessary to reverse the wires as they can be connected to the solenoid either way.

Mark, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty dispenser assembly but double check the wiring back to the control board to make sure it is not damaged.

Hello Dean. As long as you have the control panel in place and the door closes good, you should be able to test it.

Stuart, Yes that is correct that you would just tape off the connector and just tape it inside the door so that it is not just hanging.

Ned, You will want to run the dishwasher with the front panel removed and test to see if there is 120 vac getting to the dispenser when it calls for the dispenser door to open. If there is not power then the issue will be a bad control board.

Rich for Model Number KUDI01ILBL0

Replacing a KitchenAid Dishwasher detergent dispenser and having trouble separating the outside panel and inside panel to access detergent dispenser. The model number is KUDI01ILBL0 and I am viewing support help for this at: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-dispenser-asm-fuel-wp8558129-ap6013186.html#autoplay I find this model number shown at different web site but the dishwasher shown do not look like mine. Mine has a detachable top part on the outside panel for example not seen in want I have been able to find. I have been able to remove all the screws with both sized drivers, both sides and top, none found on the bottom, but the panels do not come free. The dishwasher has been in use for at least 12 years. Is it possible the insulation material has bonded to the panels? It would be much appreciated if you could tell me how I can separate these two panels without damaging them to replace the detergent dispenser. I have on line photos, if that will help, at richlauckphotography.com in the gallery named 4KitchenAid.

1 Answer

Rich, When you open the door of the unit there will be screws on the inner door panel that you need to remove. Once you remove the screws you would lift the inner door up. If the door will not separate then use a putty knife to get under the inner door panel and pry it up in order to get the inner door panel loose.

Eric for Model Number 665.16269400

I inherited this model dishwasher and it is obvious someone has worked on the dispenser before 8558129 rev 07. The dishwasher leaks from the bottom of the front panel. After removing the panel and running the dw it was obvious the leak was coming from the seal at the "top" of the dispenser. However, this dispenser looks like it was installed upside down so the solenoid is now on the right with the wire terminals entering from the top. This seems opposite of all the installation videos I have watched. 4 questions: 1. Did this model have a different orientation or did it get installed incorrectly? 2. I noticed the flange or gasket edge of the dispenser where it presses against the stainless steel dishwasher interior was concave on one side "top" and flat on the other side "bottom" . Is this normal? Could installing this upside down cause a leak? 3. When I fill the rinse aid with water and put the cap on, (while it is removed from the dishwasher), all of the water leaks out of the bottom. This doesn't seem normal unless it needs to be installed so the mounting seal also acts like a seal to keep in the rinse aid? 4. Do you sell a dishwasher safe RTV sealant or similar product?

1 Answer

Eric, Your post information would indicate the dispenser WP8558129 / WP8558129 was installed incorrectly. Yes, an improper installation will allow the dispenser to leak. You want to remember when you reinstall the dispenser, you need to clean the mounting and door panel surfaces, to make sure you have a good clean surface for the seal to seat and seal properly. Remember, the door has to "swing" up, to open. If you follow the video attached to the WP482338 part number, you'll do fine, only difference being your machine has a stainless steel panel. As for a sealant, A food grade silicone RTV sealant would be best and safest to use WP482338 / WP482338. Both parts are in stock and available at this time. Thanks,
