The Detergent Dispenser Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers, designed to store and release detergent and rinse aid at the appropriate times during the wash cycle. This component ensures that your dishes are cleaned efficiently by dispensing the correct amount of detergent for optimal washing performance.

Causes of a malfunctioning dispenser can include mechanical failure of the latch or spring mechanism, clogging due to detergent buildup, or electrical issues preventing the dispenser from operating correctly.

Symptoms of a bad Detergent Dispenser Assembly include:

  • Detergent not being dispensed correctly, leading to poorly cleaned dishes.
  • The dispenser door not opening during the cycle or failing to latch properly before starting.
  • Leakage of detergent from the dispenser, indicating a seal failure.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Neal, Yes the complete dispenser assembly will need to be replaced. and the WP8558129 / 8558129 is the correct part to order and install. It isn't a very difficult repair to perform, as long as you have some basic hand tools and basic knowledge and skills. Remove power to the dishwasher, open the door and remove all the inner door liner screws, then separate the door liner from the door assembly, disconnect the wires from the solenoid and remove the six(6) dispenser mounting screws, and slide the dispenser out of the opening. Reverse the process and test the dishwasher and dispenser for operation.

Hello Ron, After the power has been turned off and verified no power is to the unit, the door liner will have to be removed by removing the screws around the perimeter of the inside of the door assembly. Once removed, you will see six screws holding the dispenser in. When these are removed, the old dispenser will come out. Be sure to install the gasket just in case it is loose in the box. After putting the screws into the new one, re-assembly in the reverse order of dis-assembly.
