For Whirlpool Dryer Door Switch (Part Number: OEM18025692)

Dale for Model Number LTG6234AW0

Hi I just replaced the dryer door switch on my thin twin with a new switch I ordered. The reason was that the dryer always works fine and did until about a week ago I opened and shut the door and after that time the dryer would not ignite. I have replaced all the dryer gas components and items involved thru the yrs and they all ck fine now. The weird problem I have yet as I had after I opened and shut the door originally is that with the new switch now It still will not ignite the burners by closing the door and starting the dryer. IF"" I hold MY finger on the new switch pressing in with the door open the burner lights gas solenoids work flame is beautiful So Closing the door unit will not ignite, Using my finger it works fine, Odd weird. the new switch checks continuity and seems ok. Ever hear of this. Again this problem just started about a couple weeks ago when I opened and shut the dryer door. Defective switch?> also cked all grounds in the unit and all ok. My finger works fine keeping it working , But not when the door closes. Switch toggles lever works fine. I notice that there is a newer type switch available. Did they have trouble with the old type switch My unit is a 1994 and taken care of meticulessly. The company I ordered the new switch from is sending another switch so I will see if that works. Any ideas. Or just two bad switches in a row?

Dale, You may want to check the door strike and catch as it may not be closing tightly and allowing the unit to operate properly.

Hello Bill. It sounds like the switch is installed wrong or the door is not closing properly. You will need to check both of them. Thanks.

Hello Allen, The main top will still have clips near the front corners that retain the main top. Some models have to have the screws removed at the rear of the main top so it can be moved forward to release them. The top is basically raised to access the door switch.

Jason, No, it won't make a difference. The third wire(for the drum light) won't be in the harness, so it won't make a difference. The manufacturer has replaced the two wire switch with the three wire switch so it will work in several different types of models. A cost cutting program.

Dan for Model Number WED49STBW

A few weeks ago, I noticed that the heating element was staying on if you opened the door mid-cycle. Now, the drum will not turn and the motor isn't attempting to turn, but the element kicks on when you turn the dial to any point in any cycle. The unit itself is only a few months old so I hesitate to say it's the motor. a) does the door switch control the motor and element controls individually? Would a door switch fix this issue?b)aside from that and the main motor, what else could be the culprit?

1 Answer

Dan, With the heating element coming on with the dial turned in any position and the unit not running would be a centrifugal switch that is stuck on the motor. It would be suggested to open the dryer and check to make sure that there is not lint build up on the motor and if there is try to clean the lint out. If this does not correct the issue then the motor would need to be replaced.

Hello Andy, I would advise strongly against this since the dryer drum will continue to turn with the door open. This is a safety concern and serious injury could occur in relation to this condition. The door switch is in place for two reasons: To stop the drum from turning when the door is opened to prevent possible injury and To turn off the heating element when the door is opened since the air flow is different and this will burn out the heating element because of lack of air flow across it.

Hello Rogelio. No, you will match the markings on the old switch to the markings on the new switch. Then leave the spade not needed open without a wire attached.
