The Drain & Wash Impeller Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This kit includes components critical for the efficient movement of water within the dishwasher, both for washing the dishes and draining the water at the end of the cycle. The impeller aids in creating the necessary water pressure to clean dishes effectively and ensures that water is properly expelled from the dishwasher.

Symptoms of a failing Drain & Wash Impeller Kit include:

  • Dishes not being cleaned thoroughly
  • Water not draining properly from the dishwasher, leaving standing water
  • Unusual noises during the wash or drain cycles, such as grinding or humming
  • The dishwasher cycle taking longer than usual or not completing
  • Visible damage or wear to the impeller components

Causes of a bad impeller kit can include normal wear and tear from regular use, blockages or debris that damage the impeller blades, or issues with the motor that affect impeller performance.

This OEM part is also compatible with some models from brands such as Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore.

Dishwasher not draining. Using your video as a guide I took out and checked both impellers and related parts to find everything in order--no damage or debris. In checking the drain hose for clogs, I found I could not blow into the drain hose as it was sealed on the end attached to the dishwasher (I can't pull out the dishwasher because I live in a rental and countertop tile would have to be removed). I read in one of your Q&As that there is no solenoid so I didn't think there would be a valve to open to allow draining. Do I have some type of internal blockage or is there a valve of some sort that does open to drain? If there is a valve, I'm guessing I have a control board issue (also based on reading your Q&As).

Hello Link. There is a check valve. You will need to remove the drain hose under the dishwasher to look for clogs.

Hello Steve, This would be a definite issue. You should replace the drain and wash impeller kit 675806 since the circulation impeller screw threads into the drain impeller.

Bill, The motor will go to the drain mode based on what the control board is telling it to do. If the motor goes for wash but does not drain then check the impeller to make sure that it is not damaged. If this checks ok then the board would be the issue. If the drain cancel button is not working then it may be a issue with the control board also.

Lori for Model Number DU960PWKB1

We just installed your impeller kit because our dishwasher no longer drained. Other than having to chisel and cut the top impeller off, the project went smoothly. We followed you video step by step. Then started a test wash . Once it filled and started to run there was a new grinding sound and water started to leak out the bottom. Don't know if is draining because it did not get to that part of the cycle. When we opened the door the bottom was full of water. What did we do wrong? Thank You

1 Answer

Lori, By cutting and chiseling the old impeller off then it is possible that you may have done further damage to the bearing of the motor and shaft. To correct this you would need to replace the pump and motor assembly due to the damage. The part number that would be needed to repair the unit is the pump and motor W10428168.

Sharon, This impeller may be stuck due to old detergent build up and you may need to get under it and somewhat pry it off or if you have a big pair of channel locks that you can get ahold of it with to pull it off.

Tom, The motor would flow in reverse in order for the unit to go through the drain portion. There is no drain solenoid but you will want to check the check ball to make sure that it is moving freely and check the impeller to make sure that it is not damaged.

Chris for Model Number Whirpool DU940PWKB0

I see your video about the drain & washer impeller kit. After a few runs with vinegar and baking soda and hot water machine is draining better. But after cycle there is still a lot of water in base of dishwasher. I can run cancel - drain one or two times and it finally drains. Question? Is my problem drain & wash impeller the problem? I haven't opened the impeller yet to see how much debris is in there that could be blocking the drain.

1 Answer

Chris, It would be a good idea to open the pump assembly and check the impeller assembly as something being caught in it or being damaged would be the cause for no drain issue.

Hello Joseph. If the motor shaft is slipping, and you have it locked down, that would indicate the motor is bad and will need to be replaced. Some of these screws can be extremely tight and hard to remove. Try using some rust buster TJ93241 on the screw.

Hi, I ordered the chopper-impeller kit for my Kitchenaid KUDR24SEWH1 dishwasher. The instructions show a small rubber ring, roughly 1 inch in diameter, that is referenced in Note 3 which says "to be replaced as required per pump assembly". Do you know if this part applies to my model, and, if so, where does it go? It's not clear from the instructions and it did not seem to be referenced in the video that I believe I saw on your site. I did not see a similar part when I disassembled the impeller assembly. Thank you.

1 Answer

Hello Ed. You will need to look on your model and see if you see on installed. If so, replace it. If not, you do not need it.
