Frustrated Handy Housewife September 11, 2013 for Model Number DU915PWKSO Hi, my whirlpool dishwasher was leaving all sorts of food debris all over it. I bought the screwdriver bit to remove the screws and then found I couldn't remove the wash impeller. I finally figured out to do it using a large socket with locking pliers and a smaller socket and ratchet inserted through the middle. However, the wash impeller broke and left pieces on the shaft when I unscrewed it. Can you tell me please all of the pieces I need to replace at a minimum? the diagram states that you need to replace the pump gasket everytime you disassemble the pump. Which parts are considered the pump? Do I need the pump centering tool? There was a lot of calcium all over the place and I even found broken glass under the filter. How do I clean out the filter itself? Or do I just have to replace it? It is pretty full of junk. Thanks.
1 Answer Frustrated Handy Housewife, You would want to replace the pump seal kit anytime that you replace the impeller. The centering tool is not required for this unit and you could try to clean the filter by soaking in vinegar otherwise would want to replace it. Read More...
Steve May 31, 2013 Dishwasher does not seem to be circulating water all the time when in wash cycle. It sounds liek the pump is full of air. If I open the door air bubbles escape then upon closing ht edoor it sounds normal again. It then will get air bound again. What could this be?
1 Answer Steve, First check and make sure the proper type and amount of detergent and rinse aid are being used. Newer detergents and additives can produce a "foaming" action if not used properly. Then check to make sure the dishwasher is filling correctly. Start the dishwasher and let run for 3 to 5 minutes, unlatch the door, remove the lower rack and check the water level in the bottom of the tub, it needs to be within 1/4 inch of the heater element, if it fills properly, if not you'll need to replace the fill valve W10844024 . Ron April 16, 2013 for Model Number KUDR24SEAL2 My dishwasher fills and runs fine, but will not drain. The motor attempts to start several times but can't. Red light goes on and you feel a bump and then the red light goes out then on again with another bump like it's stuck. I took the motor apart and it turns fine and all parts seem good. What's should I do next?
1 Answer Hello Ron, You need to pull the tech sheet from behind the kick panel and run a diagnostic cycle to see if the unit pulls any fault codes. The tech sheet will also tell you the resistance readings of the motor windings. These should be checked with a multi-meter. Read More...
Debby March 16, 2013 for Model Number 665.16795790 Dishwasher cycles properly, but does not drain all of the water out, and then leaks water out all over floor. See above, we replaced impeller kit, and now leak has stopped but will still not drain completely. Drain hose is clear. How can it get a kink in it if it has not been moved? What do we have to do next to get it to drain completely? Could a bad sump cover gasket and/or check balls in wrong position cause this issue? Where exactly do the check balls go?
1 Answer Debby, The sump cover gasket would not cause the unit to not completely drain. The drain plate with check balls could cause this issue. The drain plate is above the impeller and the check balls go down into the plate. Read More...
Debby March 03, 2013 for Model Number Kenmore Model 665.16795790 Dishwasher cycles properly, but does not drain all of the water out, and then leaks water out all over floor.
1 Answer Debbie, Your first check should be at the drain hose. Disconnect the drain hose from the plumbing under the sink, start the dishwasher, then put the drain hose in a large bucket and drain the dishwasher into the bucket. This procedure should flush any clogs or debris in the drain line (you may need to repeat the process a couple of times). It sounds like a clog or kink in the drain line. Read More...
Notyour Mama February 17, 2013 for Model Number GU980SCGB2 My whirlpool dishwasher started making grinding noises during the wash, so after research I ordered a chopper/impeller kit to replace the old one. Upon dis-assembly I found bits of glass, a good size chunk of hard white plastic, a piece of wire about one inch long (thicker than a pencil lead), and a glob of sticky gray substance attached to the base of the cabinet along the side of the pump base. There was also a lot of gray debris and some powdery stuff. I thought a good cleaning was in order so I used my carpet spray/vac to clean the whole area. Afterwards, there is water leaking under the washer from the pump. Have I destroyed my pump and if not how do I go about drying it all out? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Not your mama, Based on the information you will want to pull the pump back apart and check to make sure that the seal is properly seated. If it is not seated properly then it will cause the unit to leak. Read More...
Tom January 31, 2013 for Model Number 665.16522000 My dishwasher runs OK, but does not drain completely. It leaves the dishes spotty, and some food residue on dishes. I suspect it is the impeller kit. Does this seem likely?
1 Answer Hello Tom, Yes the impeller kit 675806 would be the most likely reason for not draining completely. You will want to check to make sure that there is nothing clogged in the pump or drain lines that would restrict unit from draining. Read More...
David A January 14, 2013 for Model Number KUDS230Y0 Won't drain----water accumulated at bottom. What now?
1 Answer Hello David, You will want to check to make sure that there is nothing clogged in pump or drain hose. If there is something clogging it will cause a no drain issue. Also check to make sure pump is coming on. Read More...
Kent L. January 06, 2013 for Model Number Whirlpool DU8700XY-0 I am going to replace the drain and wash impeller kit and had previously loosened the 4 bolts that hold the motor to the bottom of the washer. I see in the parts list that a centering tool is required for pump re-assembly. Is this something I need if I am just replaceing the drain and wash impeller kit?
1 Answer Kent, Yes you should still need to use the centerring tool WP303918. The tool is needed for centerring the motor in the pump housing and the larger end is used for seating the shaft seal in the housing. The tolerances inside the pump are pretty tight, but if you're careful and observant, you could probably get by without the tool. Read More...
Dan D. January 01, 2013 for Model Number DU940QWDB0 The dishwasher will pump the water out but when we open the door before the dry cycle there is water in the dishwasher. It looks like it pumped the water out and then ran more water into the dishwasher. Any ideas. Thanks Dan
1 Answer Dan, Before you "teardown" the pump assembly, you may want to disconnect the dishwasher drain hose from the disposal or air gap, and drain the dishwasher into a bucket. This will usually clear any debris in the drain hose and pump assembly(you may want or need to do this a couple of times). If the problem persists then dismantle the pump assembly and check or replace the impeller assembly 675806. Read More...
