The Dryer Drive Motor is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. This motor is responsible for turning the drum and the blower wheel, which allows for effective drying and air circulation within the dryer.

Over time, the drive motor can wear out or fail due to mechanical stress, electrical issues, or general wear from regular use. Causes of a bad drive motor include motor burnout, worn bearings, or issues with the electrical connections.

Symptoms of a bad dryer drive motor include:

  • The dryer drum not spinning
  • The dryer making unusual noises such as humming, buzzing, or grinding
  • The dryer starting but then stopping shortly after
  • A burning smell coming from the dryer

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Dryer Drive Motor (Part Number: OEM9282708)

Dave for Model Number geq9800lw1

Dryer will not start at all. Start relay clicks and shows 120v. White wire to motor reads 120v at appropriate points in cycle. Door switch and all fuses show continuity. After removing drum and blocking up pulley switch, motor did come on ONCE when cycling switch, and at the end of cycle at that, but could not get motor to come on again after that. The motor sounded smooth when it did come on, and shows no signs of burning or bearing problems, etc. Could the problem be with the timer switch (although it seems to be sending power to the motor)? Or if power is getting to the motor, is the problem the motor? If it ran smoothly once, you would think that is not the problem. Or could it be the electronic control board? I am stumped and would appreciate any advice you could give to further check those components. Thanks, Dave

Hello Dave. If there is power to the motor, and it does not run, it is a bad motor. You need to make sure the belt switch, and the thermal fuse is good on the unit. Also, the door switch needs to be tested. If there is no power, then the board would fall into place on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Keith. The drive pulley comes with the motor. However, you may need to order a new blower wheel as these to break during removal.

Hello Deb, We do not have a diagram for the wiring of the motor for this model. If there is a change in the wiring there would be a instruction sheet that would have come with part.

Norman for Model Number Kenmore elite gas dryer

Start Button pushed down for seconds to get motor started. Dry's for 10 mins. Shuts off. No longer starts even when Start button is depressed (otherwise I smell a burning smell coming from panel). After 1 hr, it will turn on but repeat the process. It didn't used to start before so I originally cleaned out all the lint on the motor, blower wheel, etc. Motor can now be heard when dryer is on. Not quiet as before. Is it really the motor starting to go out? Thanks

Hello Norman. Yes, based on the information you provided, you will need to order and replace the motor if the tub is not binding up in the unit.

TB, You're on track, a water logged electric motor 279787 has little to no chance of starting or running, without a complete rebuild,so you'll need to replace the motor. You'll also want to check the belt switch WPW10411937 operation and circuit. and the igniter and radiant sensor on the burner assembly, they could be damaged by water as well.
