Mandy December 22, 2015 Hi there. I have a dryer that wont heat and I have tried to replace the heating unit, the thermal cutoff and the fuse but nothing has worked. What other steps could I take?
1 Answer Mandy, If you've replaced all the mentioned parts, then the first place to start is the wall outlet and dryer power cord where it attaches at the back of the dryer. An electric dryer requires two power sources and operates on 220-240 VAC. It is possible to loose the voltage to the heater circuit, but the dryer will run with no heat. If the voltage isn't the problem, the next check would be the timer heat circuit or the temperature selector switch if equipped. If you need more assistance, please include a model number of the dryer. We can better assist you and make more exact or precise checks. Thanks Read More...
Tom C. December 15, 2015 for Model Number WED5600VQ0 The moisture contol setting on the dryer will only run for a minute or 2. I have replaced the sensor in the drum, what's next? Please advise. Thanks
1 Answer Hello Tom, You will need to insure the harness to the moisture sensor W10816105 and the moisture sensor are not damaged or shorted to ground. If they test good you will have to change the moisture control board WPW10476828. Read More...
Hugh December 13, 2015 for Model Number Res7648kq1 Changed element and still not heating. How do I bypass it to make sure that is the problem?
1 Answer Hello Hugh. Sorry, we can not advise how to bypass parts. You will need to test the parts to see if they are bad. They should read closed for continuity if they are good. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Rtb November 30, 2015 for Model Number MED5570TQ0 My dryer heats up fine, after about 20 minutes it trips the 30 amp house breaker. Reset breaker, works for another 15-20 minutes then does it again. I have a Maytag MED5570TQO. Vent is clean heats up fine. What would cause this??
1 Answer Hello RTB. Try replacing the breaker. Many times breakers become weak and over heat trying to carry the load. If the issue continues, then you will need to measure the amperage draw of the dryer. Read More...
Jason C. November 30, 2015 for Model Number Kenmore 90 series Replaced thermal cutoff once and dryer was working. It's not working now a day later, and when I bypass the cutoff, it does heat up. If I bypass the cutoff and it heats up, does that confirm that it's just the cutoff again, or could the thermal fuse/thermostat still be a possible culprit?
1 Answer Hello Jason. That confirms the cutoff again and it confirms either the unit is not heating properly or the vent on the unit is kinked or clogged. Read More...
John F November 18, 2015 for Model Number IED4400VQI My dryer do not get hot and it does not cut off, the clothes take about 3 hour or more to dry. Do I need a heating element?
1 Answer Hello John. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. Also check the heater and thermostats and see if they are good. You can test these with a multi-meter MA-DM1. They should read closed for continuity. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Dawn November 09, 2015 for Model Number LER8858EQ2 My dryer runs but does not heat. I replaced the element and the parts at the bottom of the element. The part at the upper end tests that it doesn't work. Is that the upper limit switch or something else. Just has 2 wires that slide onto it and 1 screw takes the part off.
1 Answer Hello Dawn. You will need to trace the voltage from the element and see where your losing the voltage at. Read More...
Charlotte W. November 06, 2015 for Model Number WED5810SW0 My electric dryer doesn't heat. I tried to replace the high limit thermostat (part # 3977767) with part # 33902891 that was part of the dryer thermal cut-off kit. My dryer has a red wire and an extended connection at the bottom but no orange wire as mentioned in your video. Can I use the new part?
1 Answer Charlotte, Yes you can use the 279816 Dryer Thermal cut-off kit. But you have to install the complete kit, and follow the installation instructions. The additional red wire with the two metal terminals, will take the place of the extended tab on the original hi limit thermostat and will be installed on one terminal of the new hi limit switch and the other end on one of the terminals of the heater element, the remainder of the wires will be attached to the same terminals as before. Steven November 04, 2015 for Model Number LEB6200KQ2 I have a whirlpool dryer that will not start. I have continuity in the thermal fuse, starter relay and the door latch. When I unplug the dryer and plug it back in, the starter button will click once when pushed. Each time I plug it back in I can hear a faint click in the starter. I have replaced the starter but get the same result. Does this have any explanation? Is there anything else I should try?
1 Answer Steven, Check for 220 VAC at the outlet and at the terminal block on the back of the dryer. Check the Blue wire from the start switch, to the fuse/motor, there should be 120 VAC on the blue wire to chassis ground when the start switch is pressed. Then check the blue wire from the timer to the start switch in a dry mode to make sure there's power out of the timer. If all's Ok there, you'll need to check for voltage in and out of the thermal fuse on the blower housing and to the motor switch. These are "live" voltage checks, you need to be very careful and safe. Read More...
