For Whirlpool Refrigerator Evaporator Fan Motor (Part Number: OEM18049803)

Jim for Model Number ars9168ab

We shut our refrigerator off for one month, when we restarted it, it did not cool, freezer or refrig. Compressor is running, but the condensor fan is not running so we replaced the condensor fan. The condensor fan is now running and the compressor is running, but still not cooling. We took the evaporator panel off and noticed the evaporator motor fan not running and coils were cool only but not frozen in the freezer compartment. I checked the defrost timer knob when fridge was running, tuned it clockwise and the refrig stopped, turned a bit more and refridge started back up. Why is it not cooling? Do I need to change the evaporator motor? or defrost timer ? or do I have another more serious problem? compressor gets warm but not hot. Thanks Jim

Jim, This issue sounds more like some type of sealed system issue involving a leak or a restriction in the sealed system refrigerant lines.

Hello Brian. Yes, the green wire is the ground wire. If the control is turned on in the unit, then the fan motor will come on when the unit is plugged in. On some models, there is a few seconds delay, and on other models, it is immediately.

Hello Alain, If the evaporator coils are getting impacted with frost then you will want to check your defrost heater to make sure it has continuity. Since you already replaced the defrost thermostat, if the heater checks ok then you will want to replace the defrost timer WP2314156.

Hello Diana, The grounding wire on this unit will connect where there is a grounding wire on the left side right above the evaporator at the back wall. There is already a ground there just put that one there as well.

Hello John. As long as the ground is in the correct location, the other two wires can go on either terminal of the fan motor WPW10189703.

Hi Mike. The evaporator fan motor part # WPW10189703 needs to always run when the compressor runs. If you see a definite complete frost pattern on all of the evap. coil surface then you can safely bet the freon is flowing well, (no ice ball restrictions). You need to use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to un-plug the fan electrical connector and test for 120 vac going to the fan motor. If there you need to replace the fan. If not then look at the wires at the plugs leading up to the control assy. part # R0161092 it sends the voltage to the fan and compressor. Thank You.

Hello Allison. If you have a top mount unit, with the freezer on the top, the motor is located in the top behind the freezer wall. If you have a side by side, the motor is located in the middle behind the freezer wall. If you have a bottom mount freezer, the motor is located in the top of the freezer behind the freezer wall. The evaporator fan motor WPW10189703 does not come with any wires. You will use the wires on your unit. Hope this helps.

I have had this fridge about 2-1/2 years and about 5 months ago I noticed that it defrosts I am guessing and drips water into the drip pan at the bottom alot more than I can remember my old one doing. I replaced the water filter right before this and woke up the next day to find water all over the floor. A local repairshop said that I could of pinched the oring on the filter or that the filter housing is cracked. I tought that was what was making the dripping noise. The water has been turned off since then. After I turned the water off I noticed the dripping going on. Why does it drip so much and could it defrosted enough to flood the floor or do you think that was from the filter?
