For Whirlpool Refrigerator Evaporator Fan Motor (Part Number: OEM18049803)

Kosta, With the fan motor not running you will want to make sure that the unit is not in a defrost cycle. If the condenser fan and compressor are also not running then this would be the most likely cause. The unit may be in defrost and if you turn the dial on the timer til it clicks it should come out of defrost and the fan should work. If this does not work then the defrost timer would be the issue.

Meg, With the fan not coming on unless you hit the back wall would be caused by a bad fan motor. The fan is getting 120 vac to it so it should operate. The only other thing that you would want to check is to make sure that there is not a loose wire on the fan. If not replace the fan part number WPW10189703.

Corey, You will want to test the defrost thermostat R0161088 and make sure that it has continuity. If the thermostat is bad then the evaporator fan will not come on.

Rob, The thermostat/cold control WP2200859 is a good possibility, But, First check the back wall of the freezer compartment, make sure there isn't any heavy frost or ice build up on the wall, this would indicate a defrost issue and a lack of air movement in both compartments. Then roll the refrigerator out, remove power and the compartment cover and kickplate from the refrigerator, check, clean and remove any dust, lint and debris from the condenser coil, fan, and compressor, and surrounding area. Poor air flow though the compressor compartment will affect the cooling and efficiency of the sealed system, and both compartments will start to run warmer than usual.

Wayne, It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Sieg, You will need to access the end of the tube that is frozen up and thaw it out with a hair dryer. Once clear you should use a piece of weedeater line to chase the tube to ensure no debris is present in there. If this is a recurring issue you can use a piece of solid copper wire to make a "shepherds hook" to hang from the defrost heater and allow it to hang near the drain opening. Do not allow it to touch anything since it will get as hot as the defrost heater and will melt any plastic it contacts.

Hello Jackie. There should only be one way to install the blade onto the motor shaft. If it pushed onto the shaft, it is correct.

Krystal for Model Number ET1PHKXPQ08

My freezer is cold and the fresh food section is warm. The condenser is running and the freezer is cooling when I have it running, just no cold air seems to be coming into the refrigerator section. The evaporator fan in the freezer doesn't seem to be running. I tried turning the knob in the refrigerator to the defrost control timer clockwise and still nothing. Took the back panel off inside the freezer and everything seems to be fine and is cooling (little to no frost build up). The only thing that seems to be not working is the fan. I'm assuming this is the part I need to replace but I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking something else that could be the problem and if I do replace the fan motor and it still doesn't work then what would be the next possible cause? The defrost control timer or the thermostat maybe?

Hello Krystal, If voltage is getting to the fan motor (AP4364011) and it still is not running, it will need to be replaced. If the condenser fan is running behind the unit, the defrost timer and the thermostat are operating properly.
