For Whirlpool Refrigerator Evaporator Fan Motor (Part Number: OEM18049803)

1 Answer

Hello Bill. Make sure the door are sealing good, and the door always gets closed tightly. If not, it will allow moisture to get inside and will tear up the fan motor WPW10189703 in the unit. Hope this helps.

Our Whirlpool fridge had its freezer fan motor burn out after about a year's use. I replaced it and all was well...for about another year until the same thing happened again! So I've ordered yet another fan motor. Any notion why this fridge would go through fans like this? The blades rotate freely; nothing gets shoved in there to block rotation. And you certainly wouldn't think the motor gets overheated! I figured one bad motor was just a fluke. But two? And from different manufacturers? Strange.

Bill, It appears that this fan motor is a "shaded pole" 120 VAC motor. We're not aware of any major issues with this motor. Could you supply us with a model and serial number so we can verify. Thanks

Giovanni for Model Number Amana ARS9169AS side by side

As a follow up to cold air coming out of the bottom of the refrigerator rather than the top vent you suggested the damper might be stuck closed forcing air to the bottom. This is not the case, the damper is wide open with no obstructions. Is it possible someone might have reversed the air flow when replacing the freezer fan ? A technician informed me you can put this fan in so it blows the wrong direction. If this is the case how can I fix it ?

Hello Giovanni. There are two different motors WP10513803 and WPW10189703 for the model number you provided. What is the manufacture number and serial number of the unit? It is possible that someone installed the wrong motor in it. You could look and see if the fan was turned over the wrong way. The blade should face upward. The could have installed the blade backwards and it needs to be fliped over. Hope this helps.

I have a problem most technicians cannot seem to answer. We purchased this refrigerator used and thought it was ok until we got it home and then discovered the bottom of the frig was freezing everything around the crisper compartment area. I replaced the thermostat with no luck and then discovered there was no air coming out of the top vent but lots of cold air coming out of the bottom vent. The only logical answer I received from anyone was that the freezer fan was reversed by someone. How can I reverse this air flow back to normal ?

1 Answer

Hello Giovanni. It does not sounds like the motor, it sounds like the damper R9900109 is stuck closed in the unit and is forcing the air down into the bottom. Check and see if the damper is open. If not, replace the damper assembly located in the controls. Hope this helps.

Hi Cathy. Shut controls to off. Remove freezer drawers and shelves. Save any wanted ice in a bowl and cover with a towel. Shut ice maker off. Remove all screws on the back freezer wall and remove wall assy. Unhook green ground lead clip from the wall. This will allow you to unplug the elect. connector to the fan. Dis-mount the fan by noting all rubber bushings on each end of the motor. When replacing fan blade onto new fan, make sure it "splits" the center of the fan blade with the center of the fan shroud" for proper air flow direction. Reassemble in reverse. Thank you.

Hi Guest. You are correct. You need the evaporator fan motor part # is WPW10189703. Sometimes you can reach in and free-wheel the fan blade just quickly to let it spin until you get the part. Thank you.

Hi John. Pay attention to the "closed end" of the fan blade assembly at the end or the motor shaft. This end fits flush with the end of the motor shaft. The center width of the fan blades fit on the center of the shroud assembly. This will direct the proper air flow. This fan blade part # is WP2163777. Thank you.

Hi Lee. There is only 1 evaporator fan in the freezer. Sometimes it is hard to actually tell if the compressor is working when everything else is running. The compressor start relay is part # WPW10189190. If your evaporator fan motor is not turning up to speed then this will colling as well. This part # is WPW10189703 Thank you.
