Betty February 22, 2014 When I turn on the oven is not lighting right away and I can smell gas. It does light and no problems once it is on? Should I replace the igniter? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Betty, If the ignitor were the issue the circuit would never draw the current required to open the gas valve. Since you are smelling gas, I would suspect that either the gas valve is opening before it should or the bake burner is in need of replacement. This would point to the gas valve as the issue. If you check the units' I.D. tag for the model number, you can look up the part number and price or if you would rather, you can call us at 1-877-477-7278 with the model number and one of our representatives can look up the part number and price for you. Jmcb February 11, 2014 for Model Number 911.3674990 I have a electric oven and when u turn it on to bake and set the desired temp the burner kicks on and heats oven to desired temp. Right now it is not working at all. Any suggestions thanks?
1 Answer Jmcb, You will want to test for 3.2-3.6 amps at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Brian January 16, 2014 for Model Number Maytag range/stove top/oven Model # MGR5730BDW We are replacing our ignitor on the Maytag oven for the 5th time in 10 years. My question is - I've found ignitors that say 2.9 - 3.2 AMPs and 3.2 - 3.6 AMPs. Same model # - what is the difference and can I use either one? Do the AMPs matter and if so, why?
1 Answer Hello Brian. There is a difference for the gas valve. Based on your model number, you need to order 74007498 for the correct igniter. Read More...
Tom January 07, 2014 for Model Number 91163261690 On our electric range the large burner will not get hot.
1 Answer Hello Tom. Test and see if there is power going to the large element. If so, replace the element. Make sure the receptacle is good on the unit as well. If there is no power, you will need to replace the switch WB23K5027 on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Tom December 16, 2013 for Model Number Magic Chef Wall Oven Mod # 54F-5TKXW The oven would take several times to start. I changed the ignitor but still have the same issue. The oven works fine once it is started and maintains set temp for duration of baking. I tried the broil function today and that would not ignite for 3 times. I did not attempt any more start of broiler function since it was similar results. Could it be temp sensor, controller board or gas valve?
1 Answer Tom, Test for 3.2-3.6 amps at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3.
