The Flat Style Oven Igniter Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. It is designed to ignite the gas in the oven burner, facilitating the start of the heating process. This igniter is crucial for ensuring your oven heats up quickly and efficiently, providing the necessary flame for cooking and baking.

Symptoms of a bad Oven Igniter include:

  • The oven failing to heat up or taking a long time to reach the desired temperature.
  • A noticeable gas smell when the oven is turned on, indicating the gas is not igniting.
  • The igniter glowing without producing a flame, which can point to a lack of adequate temperature to ignite the gas.

Causes of a bad oven igniter can include the wear and breakdown of the igniter element over time, a faulty electrical connection, or a disruption in the gas supply.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

MR, Yes the igniter 12400035 will work for your unit and you would take the old shield and install it on the new igniter.

Hello Wayne, This is not a polarized part so it will operate normally connected either way. Swapping the wires will not change the ignitors' operation.

Darrell, a weak or broken oven igniter 12400035 could cause the oven to stop heating. An igniter issue is the most common reason for gas ovens to have erratic temperatures or no heat. That's a good place to start.

Hello Sam, You should check the oven temperature sensor. This is where most temperature control issues arise and is common to be intermittent. Test the sensor for about 1100 ohms at about 70°F and be sure to tap on it during the test in case of an intermittent connection inside the sensor. If out of tolerance by more than 10%, it will need to be replaced. If tested good, go to the board connection and re-test. If it then tests bad, there is a harness issue.

My broiler doesn't ignite/heat up, although occasionally it will have a low flame, i.e. it is getting a little gas but not enough to function properly. At this point I've used a clamp-on meter and have 3.6A draw on the igniter but I'm only getting 2V to the gas valve (the broiler side of the dual valve.) I also tested continuity on the valve and it appears to be fine. Is it possible the igniter is bad or is there something else I should test? Thanks

Hello Dave, Since you have the proper current draw at the ignitor, this issue will be caused by a bad oven valve WP74006427. The voltage reading must have been taken under a load since there cannot be 3.6 amps drawn without 120Vac applied to this circuit.

Matt, I believe your model should be U91F-3X (F instead of E). The flame switch is part number 7403P010-60. Unfortunately, this item has been discontinued with no further replacements or cross references available and our company is unaware of any other available sources. Sorry about that!

Hello Mary, The oven will cycle the burner on and off as heat is needed to maintain an "average" temperature. This is normal as long as the unit is reaching temperature. The ignitor will come back on when more heat is needed to re-ignite the burner.
