The Washer Gear Case is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is a critical component that houses the gears responsible for the rotation and agitation of the washer drum. This gear case ensures that the washer performs its washing cycles effectively by providing the necessary mechanical movements.

Causes of a bad gear case can include wear and tear from prolonged use, lubrication breakdown leading to increased friction, or damage from overloading the washer. Additionally, exposure to water leaks can lead to corrosion and deterioration of the internal components.

Symptoms of a bad gear case include:

  • Unusual grinding or clunking noises during the wash cycle
  • The drum not spinning or agitating properly
  • Leaks of oil or grease underneath the washer
  • The washer failing to complete its cycles

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Johnny, If the spin bearing is the issue the sound will be a loud roar that is similar to a freight train. Verify the belt is intact and not contacting anything and nothing is between the tubs. Note that the bearings have not been made available without the gearcase assembly W11454741.

John, The gear case is a possibility, but the more likely issue is a worn Can/splotch assembly W10721967 or the shift actuator WPW10006355 has failed and was partially engaging the drive system causing the clicking noise.

Mario, You will want to check the inner tub to see if it is shifting inside the outer tub, not going in circles but rocking back and forth. If it is then make sure that the bolts that hold the tub are not loose and if they check ok then check the balance ring on the outer tub to make sure that it is not damaged and still has liquid in it. If all this checks ok then the gearcase would be the issue.

Hello Eldon. You need to lean the washer back and check the large pulley under the bottom of the unit. Most likely the nut has came off and the pulley has dropped down on the unit. If so, use some Loctite on the nut and secure the pulley into place on the unit.
