The Defrost Drain Tube Heater Probe is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool refrigerators. Located near the drainage tube in the refrigerator liner, this probe monitors and controls the defrost drain tube heater.

Causes of a bad defrost drain tube heater probe include cracked solder joints or wiring connections due to normal vibration over time. Without the proper functioning of this probe, the drain tube heater will not activate during defrost cycles.

Symptoms of a bad defrost drain tube heater probe include:

  • Accumulation of ice or water in the drain tube drainage area
  • Inability to fully defrost and clear buildup from the drain tube
  • Error codes indicating heating element issues

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Heath for Model Number Kenmore Coldspot Model # 10668182891

Will Drain Heater Part Number: AP3119957 work on my Kenmore Coldspot Model # 10668182891? I have had the drain tube freeze up multiple times. This leads to a frozen freezer bottom and water dripping into my refrigerator. Each time I clear the drain by pouring in hot water until it drains freely. I am just curious if this fits my model and if it is the right choice. Is there anything else I should be checking? The rear of the refrigerator tends to freeze food also. I am just hoping to fix this somehow so I don't have to keep clearing the drain. Thank you, Heath

Heath, Yes, the heat probe 819043 will work for your unit to correct the freezing water line. You may not need the round cylinder for your unit.

Hello George, With the drain kit not sure how you want to modify it but if you put the probe around the heater and stick it into the drain this will correct issue. The tube is not used in all applications due to the tube being too long and will not slide into drain.

Jean for Model Number Whirlpool ET1MTKXKT02

I bought this to resolve the drain icing issue. Four questions: 1. Should this kit work on this unit? 2. The kit now includes insulation strips for around the edges of the evaporator cover, but the cover for my refrigerator looks completely different from that one, and also has some narrower insulation already in place. Should I skip on this insulation? 3. The instruction sheet is a little unclear. Under "Remove drain pan", it says "NOTE: On plastic liner design, remove nylon drain insert and discard." My drain pan is all metal and has no nylon insert, just a cut-out hole, so I ignore this, correct? 4. The probe extends down well into the hole. Under the round cut-out in the metal drain pan, the drain hole has a black material, possible plastic, around it. Will the heated probe damage this black material? It is pretty much impossible to get the pan out of the way enough (as it extends up behind the evaporator unit) to see if the black part is removable, and to insert the aluminum tube. Note: the refrigerator has not been plugged back in yet. Thanks for any/all help!

Hi Jean. #1. Yes this kit can be used your unit. #2. Since this kit is a universal one and if your evaporator cover does not have the strips, you can elect to use them or not. They are meant to help conceal the heating element defectiveness to focus on the drain better (as well as internal cooling/ evap.fan flow). If the foam insulation is still in good repair then it is as well. #3. If the metal tubing fits inside the drain hole then you do not remove the plastic part mentioned in the instructions. # 4. The heat probe mounts to the back wall of the heater area, not to the heater itself. It is centered into the drain hole. So the probe just transfers the heat and keeps it defrosted. You may have to cut a portion of the tube so it does not touch the black drain insert. Thank You.

Hello Matt, There is no "longer" one made, but I have always used a piece of Romex, (home wiring), with the insulation stripped off. All you have to do is make a large enough loop to hook it back around itself and make sure you don't make it long enough to ever contact the drain hose or any other plastic parts. This method was actually taught to me by a tech line technician with Amana, and it did fix a repeat issue.
