Symptoms of a bad defrost drain tube heater probe include:

  • Accumulation of ice or water in the drain tube drainage area
  • Inability to fully defrost and clear buildup from the drain tube
  • Error codes indicating heating element issues

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Bryan, the heat probe 819043 would be used on the evaporator heater, although, it is not showing for the model provided. Oftentimes, if the drip pan under the evaporator does not drain properly, it is caused by the end in the compressor section clogging up with dust and debris that would need to be cleared out.

Dave, unfortunately, as the manufacturer does not list this part for the model provided, we can not guarantee the operation. While it can potentially work, the most common cause for the defrost drain to block up with ice would be due to the defrost tube in the compressor section clogging up with dust and debris which would need to be cleared out.

Sharon, Once the defrost drain is defrosted and cleared of any debris, you should be able to use the probe. The probe attached over the defrost heater and extends down into the top of the drain hole. This should transfer enough heat to keep the drain from freezing up while the defrost water drains out.

Keith, The heat probes function is to extend heat from the defrost heater to the beginning portion of the defrost drain during the defrost cycle to keep the drain open so the water will drain out and not freeze before reaching the drain. The only way this is going to cause the drain to clog is if some foreign material gets in the drain...the drain should only have water from defrosting in the pan.

Gary, the drain tube can be cleared by removing the evaporator cover and using hot tap water to clear out the ice build-up in the drain tube grommet W11566763. With the ice cleared out and it is verified that water goes completely through to the drip pan from the extension tube W11512417, the tube can be inspected for any crimped sections.

James, due to the model provided using a glass tube heater, a heat probe would not be recommended. If there is a defrost drain clog, the tube would need to be inspected for any partial clogs where it exits into the drain pan and cleared as necessary.

Brooke, Yes, just remove the rear cover in your freezer and install the heater clip to the defrost heater. You should make sure your drain is clear before you install this. A garden sprayer filled with hot water does a good job.

Ben, the adhesive strips are insulation that is used to seal the evaporator cover. An instruction sheet will be sent to assist with where the insulation is placed and how long each piece will need to be cut to.
