Edward February 01, 2017 for Model Number RF4287HARS/XAA Left hand side of freezer compartment has ice build up with snow like ice too. I will be cleaning the defrost drain but wanted to add the heat probe 819043 also. Is it compatible with my model? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Edward, This 819043 is compatible with your unit. We do strongly recommend that the probe be trimmed so it will not physically contact any rubber or plastic parts to avoid damage to the drain/liner and avoid any hot plastic/burning odors inside the unit. You should make sure there are no air leaks contributing to the ice/frost accumulation. Read More...

Richard S May 30, 2016 for Model Number ER9FHKXTQ00 Would the heat probe work for this unit? (The drain tube feels as if it is plastic and curves to the back of the unit shortly after exiting the bottom of the defrost tray.) If not, what could be the cause and solution of a defrost drain hose chronically freezing (there does not appear to be any blockage in the hose other than the ice issue)?

Backofbook April 09, 2016 for Model Number ET1MHKXMT00 The freezer drain on my Whirlpool refrigerator keeps icing over causing water to accumulate inside the veggie drawer and bottom of the fresh food compartment. I have installed the 819043 Probe Kit and wonder if this will cause damage to the drain or worse, if it might cause a fire. I see this topic has been brought up here and one answer was that it won't get hot enough to cause damage and the water cools it off also. Another answer was that the probe must be trimmed to not contact the drain as it would cause damage. Which answer is correct or does it depend on the model?
1 Answer Hello Backofbook, This is really depending on the construction of the model in question. Of course you will not want the metal part hanging from a red hot element to contact rubber or plastic while some models incorporate a metal liner. Read More...
