The Defrost Drain Tube Heater Probe is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool refrigerators. Located near the drainage tube in the refrigerator liner, this probe monitors and controls the defrost drain tube heater.

Causes of a bad defrost drain tube heater probe include cracked solder joints or wiring connections due to normal vibration over time. Without the proper functioning of this probe, the drain tube heater will not activate during defrost cycles.

Symptoms of a bad defrost drain tube heater probe include:

  • Accumulation of ice or water in the drain tube drainage area
  • Inability to fully defrost and clear buildup from the drain tube
  • Error codes indicating heating element issues

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Jeff, There is not one in place from the manufacturer. You can install one 819043 easily and this will normally correct the issue as long as the drain line is not clogged. You can chase it with a piece of weedeater line to ensure it is not clogged.

Hello James. Sorry, there is not one for your model. Your model uses a glass tube heater. They do not make one for it.

Bob, The 819043 probe, will work a bit better than a copper wire, but the idea is to keep the defrost drain opening in the trough from freezing. If you're sure the problem isn't a defrost heater issue, then you will want to remove the control panel and air tunnel cover and check the defrost drain tube for a restriction or blockage (hot water and a turkey baster work well) and check to make sure the drain tube in the compressor compartment isn't out of position allowing air to migrate up the tube and freeze the trough/tube.
