Brian October 05, 2021 for Model Number 106.51103110 We need to change the defrost heater in our freezer but our model has a tray at the bottom with molded in slides. The slides prevent pulling the evaporator coils out and forward, which made it very difficult to pull the old heater out let alone push a new one in. Does anyone have experience with doing this replacement in a freezer with tray slides that block the evaporator coils?
1 Answer Brian, The glides that the drawer would slide in on can be removed in order to get the rear panel off and lift out the evaporator. If the silver tray is in the way it can be bent a little to get the evaporator pulled out. Read More...
Maria Y. February 18, 2021 for Model Number Whirlpool gold GS6SHEXML00 refrigerator My side-by-side refrigerator in the freezer won’t defrost and water is on the bottom and freezes up. And refrigerator side is not cold and keep getting water on the bottom too. I replaced the defrost thermostat but it’s still having the same problem. What else can I do? Replace the defrost heater? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Maria, Water in the freezer floor usually indicates a frozen defrost drain. This should be cleared and put a tablespoon of white vinegar in it to kill any algae that may be forming in the drain hose. The unit most likely has a bad control board WPW10135090 if the defrost heater ohms out properly. Read More...
Brian December 05, 2020 for Model Number Kenmore 106.57036601 Recently my refrigerator side stopped cooling and the freezer side was getting a large buildup of frost that would flow into the fridge side. It was originally diagnosed as a dead defrost control board. After replacing that, the fridge side cools properly but every 10hrs approx. the circuit breaker flips. Resetting the circuit breaker enables the refrigerator to continue working correctly for another 10hrs. Upon testing the heater today, the heater has continuity but it also appears to be grounding. What is going on? Should I replace the heater? Please help!
1 Answer Brian. Based on the information provided the heater if grounded would need to be replaced. WP2323198 Read More...
Scott October 14, 2020 for Model Number 10656536401 I have a Kenmore side by side ref Freezer works well however ref side is warm If I unplugged the unit and aloud to sit for a couple of days both sides work well, so I assume it is a defrost issue. How do I narrow it down as to a defrost coil element or defrost actuator?
1 Answer Scott, the defrost heater WP2323198 would need to be tested for resistance and it should measure between 21O to 27O and the defrost thermostat WPW10225581 would be tested for continuity (should have continuity). However, the thermistors could potentially cause this issue if they are not registering properly. Read More...
Lisa December 13, 2019 for Model Number ED25RFXFW01 This refrigerator is now 20 years old and just this month have retired it to the garage. It is working great still except for the freezer is not “completely” freezing food because of the cold temperature in the garage. Is there a heater that can be installed on this model and if so, could you please provide the exact part # so I can order immediately. Thank you!
1 Answer Lisa, Unfortunately, there would not be a garage heater kit that would work for this model. Read More...
Michael February 05, 2019 for Model Number ED5VHEXTL01 Your repair video for the defrost heater shows removing the bottom tracks for the slide drawer. My model has the bottom rails molded into the compartment, so I can't remove them and the evaporator can't be pulled out at the bottom to remove the heat shield or defrost heater. So how do you replace the heater?
1 Answer Michael, if you remove the clips that hold the heater to the bottom of the evaporator, you will then be able to move the element to the side and down to rotate it out of the evaporator assembly. There is not a lot of play room, but this can often times be the easiest way to replace the heater if the evaporator can not be pulled out slightly. Read More...
