The Heating Element is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This element is for heating the water to the required temperature and for the drying cycle, allowing your dishes come out clean and dry. It's positioned at the bottom of the dishwasher tub, where it heats the water and aids in the drying process by evaporating moisture from the dishes.

Causes of a bad heating element include mineral buildup from hard water, which can insulate the element and reduce its efficiency, or electrical issues such as a burnt-out coil.

Symptoms of a bad heating element:

  • Dishes not being cleaned properly due to the water not reaching the optimal temperature.
  • The dishwasher not drying dishes effectively
  • The dishwasher taking longer to complete cycles

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Ernie, you will want to check the hi limit thermostat WPW10195091 for continuity. If there is no continuity between the terminals, then it is bad. If it checks good, then from there you will want to check the outgoing voltage to the heater assembly directly at the control [W11305297]. If there is not voltage going out of the control to the heater during the heating portion of the cycle, then the control is bad.

Hello Darby, You should first run a service diagnostics cycle to see if any fault codes are stored. This is explained on the tech sheet that is located behind the kick panel. This sounds more like a model with a vent W10316375 that is not opening properly.

Hello Bonnie. Try doing a reset on the board. Turn off the power for about 30 min and see if the problem goes away. If not, the heater may not have been the issue or when it went out it got the board WPW10380685 and it may need to be replaced.
