The Ice Container Assembly is an OEM component for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is the bin that collects and stores ice produced by the ice maker. With its precise design and durable construction, the ice container allows ice cubes to easily drop down through the chute from the ice maker.

Causes of a bad ice container assembly can include cracks or broken parts that prevent proper operation. Over many uses, normal wear and tear may compromise its ability to effectively store and retain ice.

Symptoms of a bad ice container assembly include:

  • Ice cubes dropping outside of the container and accumulating elsewhere
  • Difficulty removing cubes from the container
  • Cracks or openings that compromise insulation and cause premature melting

This replacement is also compatible with Kenmore, KitchenAid, and select Maytag models.

SJO, Check to see that the auger motor has power to it when the ice leaver is pushed, If the auger motor has power to it and doesn't run it would need to be replaced. If the motor does not have power to it then you have a switch or wiring issue.

My ice container assembly is stuck solid, can't pull it out. When I was able to pull out I noticed a sheet of ice below the container assembly which causes the container assembly to get stuck. After I cleaned everything, it would work ok for a few hours, and then again it got stuck. The icemaker does make ice but it gets lumped and then gets stuck as big chunks could not be broken by the rotating shaft to come out. Can you let me know what could be the issue and how to fix it? Thank you

Hello Siddharth, The ice formation was most likely caused by a poor ice door seal. Unfortunately, in every case I have seen with the ice formation that has caused the ice container to be stuck in so it cannot be easily removed, the cause was a warped door liner. This is only serviceable by replacing the complete door assembly 13107324SQ since the door liner is not available individually.

Gary, Thanks for the question and the first place to start is what is the temperature at the ice maker. If the temperature is not between 0°F and 10°F then you have a cooling issue with the refrigerator. If the temperature is below 10°F then make sure you have power and water getting to the ice maker.

Roger, There would not be screws that would go on this part as the front will just snap into place. This would require a new ice container W11185686.

Richard, it is likely that either the damper WPW10196393 is not closing or there is an air leak from the ice chute in the door that is causing the ice to block up. If warmer air reaches the ice and causes it to sweat, the ice will start to block up once temperature is reached again. The warmer air would also cause the ice maker to not harvest properly. Inspecting the ice door chute, as well as the operation of the damper is recommended. The ice box fan W11529245 will also need to be inspected to ensure that it is operating properly as well as it is responsible for the air flow in the ice cabin.

Kim, Remove your ice bucket and make sure there is nothing blocking the arm on the ice maker from coming down and reset your unit. You can reset by simply unplugging for 3 or 4 minutes then reapply power.

John, If you remove the cover on the icemaker there will be an adjustment screw that you would turn counterclockwise but only a 1/4 of a turn at the max. If this does not correct then it could be an issue with the water valve allowing water to trickle in.
