The Oven Igniter is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens responsible for igniting the gas burner that heats the oven. It works by drawing electrical current through the igniter filament, heating it to a high temperature until it glows and ignites the gas to start the cooking process.

Symptoms of a failing Oven Igniter include:

  • Oven not heating up at all
  • Igniter glowing without igniting the gas
  • Weak flame or delayed ignition
  • Increased gas smell

Causes of a bad Oven Igniter can range from normal wear and tear, which reduces the igniter's efficiency over time, to physical damage or a buildup of dirt and grease that can interfere with its operation. A malfunctioning igniter can lead to uneven cooking, wasted gas, and in some cases, safety hazards due to the accumulation of gas without ignition.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Oven Igniter (Part Number: OEM18111615)

Buhbuh, Is there any problems with the cooktop burners igniting, if not you'll need to check the gas valve assembly WPW10293048 for resistance and DC voltage from the DSI spark module WPW10331686. On the gas valve terminals, you should have a resistance reading of 215 ohms resistance from the center terminal to each of the outside terminals. Then reattach the wires, set your meter to read DC voltage and attach the meter lead to the center terminal and make a bake selection on the control. You should have a reading of 8 to 18 DCV to the outside gas valve terminals (the higher the voltage the better). Since the issue is intermittent, you probably have a weak DSI spark module.

Hello Eddie, The most common cause of your complaint is the bake ignitor WP3186491. You can test for 120Vac voltage to the ignitor to verify since it could also be a bad relay on the board, wiring, or the safety valve.

Hello Bill. An F2 error code means Oven temp is too high. 1. Look for welded relay contacts on bake or broil relays. If this happens, replace oven control (also called clock or ERC). 2. For SELF CLEAN models: check door lock operation. 3. Look for a high resistance connection or any other cause of high resistance in the oven temperature sensor circuit. Check sensor, sensor harness and sensor harness connection at sensor and oven control. Replace sensor if found defective. The electronic control for your model is Part# WPW10312660

Hello, I just ordered a new igniter for my oven today, because when I hit start for my oven I hear a click, but no heat or glow. My burners work, so I believe it's not an issue other than the igniter. Anyways, I put in my model number and ordered the igniter it said was compatible. However, not that I am looking at the part online it seems to be flat. The one in my oven is round. Is that going to make a difference in anyway?? Please tell me no!! I need my oven!!! Thank you.

Robin for Model Number FGP305KW2

Hi; I have a Roper Gas Stove/Range, I've noticed someone else had a very similar question to mine. I've had this now for 9 years and has never had an issue till now. The problem is when I turn on the oven (to say 350 degrees) and wait, the burner does not light. I have waited 2-3 minutes and nothing. The oven ignitor does glow (but only a bright orange or near red) it does not get as you stated in this other persons question 'white hot'. I'm like this other person, when I tap gently with a small hammer or screw driver on the gas safty valve it does light, but when it reaches the temperature setting and it goes out, it will not light again. I do not have a whoile lot of money, so I'm hoping to get this right the first time! So do you think it is the ignitor?, or safty gas valve? (Model # FGP305KW2)

Hello Will. Yes, it sounds like the igniter is weak and will need to be replaced in the unit.
